Formula One in 1973 was a year of triumph and tragedy, we saw how Colin Chapman's creation, the iconic Lotus 72, win but lose - with circuits that were so dangerous and so exciting, just wished they'd been a little less fatal and will put these ultra-modern circuits into their true perspective, think some of the more modern circuits and the boredom-fest to what you will see on this DVD- if you are not familiar with 'real' circuits and spectacular action then watch this DVD

the ending is poignant and if you are a fan of Motor racing you will know how many others are no longer with us - if you are not a fan, watch this DVD and you will be - the sheer spectacle is breathtaking, the sound, the splendor the vulnerability but also its ruthlessness - especially Chapman, genius maybe, awe-inspiring definitely- go for a pint, no, but such was his genius he'd have probably re-designed the hand-pumps to increase efficiency and lower the weight, would go better but not necessarily as reliably.

funny enough or hopefully you've gathered that I would recommend this DVD to not only us enthusiasts of old but to the modern armchair fan with his x-box thingy and maybe that will help you understand a bit more

This is a magnificent documentary, with wonderful commentary by the hugely respected Ian Wooldridge.
It has many intriguing scenes with the fascinating and amazing Colin Chapman, and it's this documentary which features the immediate aftermath of Francois Cevert's terrible death.
There's also a great moment between Jackie Stewart and Ronnie Peterson after Jackie had outfoxed him at the start of the British Grand Prix before it was stopped following a multiple accident. (I've always thought that Jackie's start to this race was every bit as good as Senna's in Donnington in 1993).
Buy it !!!

Excellent account of the Lotus glory days in formula 1, sadly the picture quality is a bit lacking, clearly an old documentary that has certainly not been digitally remastered (usual DUKE quality); Chapman's at his best, although he gives the impression he obviously knew the camera was running during the making of this!

I have owwned this on VHS for many years but with the VHS era now almost over there will soon be a time when it would not be possible to watch the VHS copy.

To sum up it arrived well within the expected time and was exactly as expected.

a great 'fly on the wall' look at the golden period of racing where the sport was moving from the amateur to professional period and where Colin Chapman was taking the lead in that transformation.
worth the price

The quality was not as good as Weekend of a Champion or Champion James Hunt . Neither the story nor the quality of the recording impressed.
