This book charts the rise of Gareth Bale from youth player to the brink of his move to Real Madrid. I'd hoped that there would be some deeper insights based on the author's own interviews with Gareth and his family / friends, but unfortunately this was not the case. Instead, the vast majority of the material is sourced from match reports and other excerpts from interviews given to the sporting media. The detail of certain match summaries will be of interest and celebration to fans of Spurs and the Welsh national team. Despite the obvious emphasis of this biography, I did find the author's comparisons with Ryan Giggs' career / background quite insightful. The book follows a largely chronological pattern, but contains very little information on Gareth's early childhood and nothing beyond his agreed move to the Bernabeu. It seems as if the book initially went to press in late 2011; certainly the latter few chapters read as a very sketchy, hastily-composed post-script. Several typos aside, this is a light, readable summary of Gareth's footballing career at Southampton and Spurs. I would have liked a greater number of picture illustrations than are included. Following his first season as a 'Galactico' and his exploits at the Champions League Final earlier this year, I expect more recent 'Bale' publications would now be preferred.

This is a book that covers Gareth Bale's rise to stardom on the football field.
It has a passing coverage of his time with Southampton, Wales and Tottenham.
If you are looking for in-depth personal info this is not the book for you although you do get a feel for the fact that this man works hard and knows that this is the only way that he will achieve his goals (no pun intended).
If you want to follow his career up to 2010/2011 then this will do that but not much more.
