5.0 out of 5 stars A true lifeline
After changing courses at uni to social policy and only having a summer to cover the whole of a first year of a socail policy course, i can safely say this book is what got me through the expiriance.

As a student with learning difficulties it was wondeful to find a clear and simple break down of social policy issues which i felt was imeadiatly acessable...

Okay, what did you expect. Some kind of long guide...That said, and despite a few elements of usefulness, overall a bit of a waste of money. The usefulness is the European comparisons but for a 1st year social work student needing a bit more critique of perspectives, not terribly readable.

After changing courses at uni to social policy and only having a summer to cover the whole of a first year of a socail policy course, i can safely say this book is what got me through the expiriance.

As a student with learning difficulties it was wondeful to find a clear and simple break down of social policy issues which i felt was imeadiatly acessable.

It was also a confidence boosting little book, as while trying to get through a standard companion to social policy can be a long stresful and confusing process, the short guide is readable and engaging.

Highly recomended as a introductory textbook, for new social policy students, "modules outside of main disipline"students , current social policy students who want a good summarising text/ essay referances and students who find the heavier texts overwealming.

Highly recomended!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy read, 25 Feb 2010
Interesting book, which is easy to read and understand. It doesn't only focus on social policy in the UK and covers many other countries.
