Being of a younger generation, I wasn't even concieved when Angel Witch first released their debut. I brought this album after reading a review in a magazine, and deciding it sounded like something intresting.

I have to say I wasn't dissapointed. The album is well written, the production is great and they quality of the musicians is amazing. With so many "indie" bands being shoved down my throat as being rock and metal, this is a hark back to a time when "rock" was dangerous and mystical, but at the same time, this album never once sounds dated. It sits along side many a album from the modern metal bands and doesn't seem out of place.

If your expecting thashy guitars and screaming vocals you will be disappointed, but if you like your metal to be technically brilliant and with vocals that you dont need the lyric book to understand while still being equally as menacing as they are beautiful, you could do worse than to buy this album and give it a whirl.

32 years after their debut album Kevin Heybourne's Angel Witch have somehow come up with something that has truly captured the spirit of that legendary first album. Along with Black Sabbath, Angel Witch are my favourite band of all time despite the fact that Kevin has rarely captured in the studio what was witnessed on the stage but his song writing abilities have never been in question. "Screamin n Bleedin" and "Frontal Assault" (the 2nd and 3rd albums) were filled with quality songs and only suffered because of the production and the personnel weren't quite right (i still love those albums though). Thankfully and surprisingly Heybourne gets it right this time, he's been through a lot over the years and that makes this effort all the more remarkable.
I think all of the songs are excellent but i was slightly disoriented with "Witching Hour" because it borrows the lyrics from an earlier AW song - the very characteristic "Waltz The Night" from the 2nd album. "Upon This Chord" deserves a special mention because of the brave and unique lyrical content, this song literally gives me goose bumps, it's both sorrowful and terrifying and is just a great horror story.
I could spend a lot of time reviewing each song individually but what's the point?
There's nothing weak on this album, if you liked the NWOBHM, if you like Sabbath, if you like King Diamond and everything in between then don't hesitate in buying this album.
I salute you Kevin Heybourne, the most underrated talent that heavy metal has ever produced.

As so many people have said before me (reviews, people I've talked to), this really is the worthy follow-up to their debut album! If you're a big N.W.O.B.H.M. fan, just as I am, then you need to buy this album, and listen to it! If you love their debut, then you need to buy this album, and listen to it! If you miss the old Angel Witch, then you need to buy this album, and listen to it!

This is really a dream come true for the fans as well as the man himself. Everything about this record makes it the best album they've ever done in every way. It looks fantastic, it sounds better than the first album and captures the spirit and atmosphere of the band as they were in 1980, but somehow timeless.

This is without a doubt the best Angel Witch Album since their debut some years ago. Like Death Magnetic should've been the follow up to ...And justice for all, As above...should have been the follow up to Angel Witch. It's been a long wait but thanks Kev:)

Awesome ass kicking NMOBHM rises with force and virulent intent ; if u don't get a thrill out of this one then ure probably already dead ; trouncing the air with a rough and heavy blade of metal ; no prisoners here. MM.
