"Emerald" follows the fortunes of the Chase family, who we first met in Lauren Royal's previous novel "Amethyst". This time the focus of the book is the eldest son, Jason, as he goes in search of justice for the serious assualt of two of his tennents, and the accidental death of an unknown stranger - killed by his own sword.
En route he meets Caithren Leslie, who is travelling from Scotland in search of her brother. Jason mistakes her for Scottish bounty hunter Emerald MacCallum, and the book follows their journey to London.
Lauren Royal perfectly captures the mood of the era - the book is set in 1667. She has obviously thoroughly researched this period, especially the language and places she uses. Her descriptions are so clear, you can see Cait and Jason in your mind's eye as you read it.
If you want to curl up in front of the fire and escape for a few hours, then this is the book for you. I was so engrossed I couldn't put the book down.

Jason and Cait's story is a wonderful and very different story to that in the first book in the trilogy, two very different brothers who fall in love with two very spectacular women.

If you read Amethyst and Colin's story and enjoyed it you will enjoy reading this book. If you haven't read the first book I recommend strongly that you get it, especially if you love this genre.

This author has taken a lot of time researching her facts and getting the details right. If you are interested in visiting any of the places mentioned in her story, read the notes at the end of her book for the places that inspired her.

Now for the last book in this series.......I can't wait to get reading it.

Now I had read Amber [book 3 of the trilogy] first as it was in another box set... and then I read Amethyst [book 1] and then this glorious book... I don't have to say much as I don't think that I should kill the enjoyment of the book by telling you the story or comment on the characters - just read the book - especially if you enjoy historical romance. Lauren Royal is a Master Storyteller with genius at her fingertips when it comes to an intriguing plot and drawing all the threads of the story to a fabulous conclusion. I will definitely read this book - actually the full trilogy - again!! Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this book of the story of Jason Chase and Caithren Leslie. The fact that he thought she was Emerald MacCallum the bounty hunter was interesting and then finding out he had accidently killed her brother didn't lend much to a happy ending but in the end love won through and it was a very good read.

|I dd enjoy Emerald very much, not too Olde English, just enough., I have now read 4 books in the Chase series, but have found they are too similar to
Emerald, Once I'd read Emerald, I needn't have read the next 3 in the series ' "Sorry"

The use of places and foods of the time makes the story that much more adventurous.
Many of the names of places are historically correct and the dialogue between characters is very enjoyable.
