I enjoyed these war diaries for their insight into everyday life during the First World War.They contain one or two lovely little illustratiions. I must declare an interest, the author was my great great aunt!

Just what it says on the cover, this is not fiction but actual extracts from a nurses diary kept during the first world war. Pretty harrowing stuff but nicely balanced with a lot of general observations about her location and her off duty jaunts into the countryside.

Detailed diary of a nursing sister in the first world war, it includes details on every day life both as a nurse and a woman. She is a woman of strength comparison who works hard but also explore her local environment, this book/diary leaves no one in any doubts about the horror of war, but also the healing a lovely place can bring about.

This book should be compulsory reading for all nurses and all studying WW1 at college. Whilst this could be a gruesome subject it was written in such a gentle but honest way.
