5.0 out of 5 stars Great DVD and actually nothing wrong with the disc at all!
I'm writing this review purely to state that there is nothing with this DVD, either in its encoding or production. The two programmes need no recommendation - they are essential to any fan of Jefferson Airplane, QMS or the SF '60's scene, and it is wonderful that they have finally been released on DVD.

However, the other reviewer here slates the production...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Bag
Go Ride the Music is Jefferson Airplane at a rock-out high (in every sense); Joey Covington thrashes around his kit and the band are in top form (Marty Balin's vocals are brilliant). Look out for a brief behind-the-scenes appearance by David Crosby in typically stoned form. QMS are playing at what looks like an outdoor party and are fairly hot if not at their Monterey...

The two programmes need no recommendation - they are essential to any fan of Jefferson Airplane, QMS or the SF '60's scene, and it is wonderful that they have finally been released on DVD.

However, the other reviewer here slates the production qualities. Let me state very clearly that I have watched this DVD from start to finish and I found no problems with the picture, other than the slightly grainy quality you would expect from something shot on film and lying in the archives for 40 years or so. Maybe the other reviewer got a poor copy, or maybe there is a problem with this DVD player, but trust me, this is great quality music TV and is more than watchable - it is essential!

Go ride the music!

4.0 out of 5 stars go ride the music dvd, 16 July 2008
i have to agree with the second persons review. the copy i have is fine,i am writing this to put anybodys mind to rest over this dvd, as before i bought a copy the only review i could find was the first one on here and that did stop me from buying a copy for a while. i would how ever like to say i played this dvd first in a computer and to me it did not play as good as in a dvd player, so that might be where the problem is. but if you like the bands on here you will love this dvd. the second show west pole is of its time and you dont see has much of the bands as you do in go ride the music.

If it were all like this I'd give it 4 stars. But West Pole is sketchy; sure, it was a TV special to publicise the SF scene of the time. But the video films for the music are pretty grainy and hard to watch and Sons of Champlin just go on and on and on. Ace of Cups are pretty interesting (especially the closer, Gospel Song) but the programme doesn't really click. If you're a Haight Ashbury aficionado it's a nice document to have, if you're just discovering late 60s psychedelic rock check out A Night At The Family Dog instead.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great TV shows, very bad DVD encoding !, 19 Jun 2008

After having bought "A Night At The Family Dog" DVD released by Eagle Rock last year, I was excited to get this new DVD, with these historical TV shows (2 extracts from Go Ride The Music were already available on the "Fly Jefferson Airplane" DVD, but here you have the complete show).

I am very disappointed with this PAL DVD, the image suffers from a lot of jerk, most probably due to a very bad NTSC to PAL conversion. This is almost unwatchable: everytime you have some movements, you can see fluidity problems. I don't understand how such a professional label as Eagle Rock dared to release this PAL DVD with these obvious flaws! I compared with the "Fly Jefferson Airplane" PAL DVD, and the extracts of Go Ride The Music don't have these problems. So I guess something wrong happened when doing the NTSC to PAL conversion (maybe a cheap tool dropping some frames?...). It's a pity, because they got it right when they released "A Night At The Family Dog" last year.

I think there's a 2DVD NTSC version coming out...
Avoid the PAL version.
