Julie is a pretty 16 year old daddy's girl, perhaps too much of a daddys girl, when a sleazy delivery guy attempts to rape her mother julie with gun in hand has every opportunity to save her but instead stands back and watches as the delivery guy kills her. At first everything ssems great, julie has her daddy all to her self but then everything goes wrong when he meets another woman and gets re-married. Now julie finds herself competing for her fathers attention with both his new wife and her son, clearly something must be done so julie sets a deadly plan in motion.
Julie darling is a fun if somewhat occaisionally sleazy canadian thriller (actually shot in germany) with a great cast, including Anthony franciosa and the cult legend sybil danning. Without some of the sleazier elelments of the film, (mainly lots of lingering gratuitous nudity) Julie darling would still work. The films plot and acting are strong enough to make the film interesting and much of its sleazier elements feel included more for commercial reasons than for any artistic merit, not that i'm complaining mind! If you like code reds output sofar then I highly reccomend this movie, it's a great find and a highly entertaing piece of explotation cinema that will definately appeal to code reds fan base. All credit to Paul nicholas , director of the other sybill danning exploitation classic chained heat, for delivering a film that actually entertains rather than just tittilates.

Code red have given the film a great treatment, the film looks fantastic, we get two audio commentaries (sybill's one is especially reccomended to fans) and some on camera interviews. So plent of entertainment for your money.

Overall, if you like code reds output you really should have this one on your shelf, if you don't its still an entertaining movie. However if you find gratuitous nudity and violence offensive then don't bother.

One to buy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Ex-"Nasty" - great little (mad) thriller, 28 Sep 2013

This review is from: Julie Darling [DVD] (DVD)
Once labelled as one of the (so-called) 'Video Nasties' of the 1980s, this is a rather bizarre and enjoyable psychological thriller.
Genre favourites James Franciscus (Tenebrae, Ct O'Nine Tails, Fathom, Valley of Gwanji) and Sybill Danning (Battle Beyond the Stars, Chained Heat) star.
NB: this UK released DVD from Elstree Hill Entertainment claims to have a BBFC 'PG' certificate. This can't be true (there's no listing for Julie Darling at all anywhere on the BBFC site) and so I suspect a (rather lenient) self-imposed cert. Although far from deserving of it's 'Video Nasty' label, this slightly deranged tale of incest and murder is definitely not for kids!
