4.0 out of 5 stars The Power and The Passion, 3 April 2012

Brighton's Blood Red Shoes are on fine form with their third album
'In Time To Voices'. Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell seem to have
gone from strength to strength with this collection of eleven new songs.

There is more depth and polish in evidence here than in their last outing ,
2010's 'Fire Like This'. The melodies and arrangements are well-constructed
and more than a few of them stick in your ears like sonic glue. Single 'Cold'
is a particularly strong composition; a rumbustious blur of rattling percussion,
squalling electric guitar and powerful vocals which bumps and grinds along
convincingly. 'Two Dead Minutes', too, shows growing evidence of a refined
pop sensibility in its lush harmonies and quasi-psychedelic ambience. 'Je Me
Perds', on the other hand, despite its brevity, generates enough post-punk
energy to make our hair bristle and burn. 'Down Here In The Dark', however,
gets my vote for pick of the bunch. Mr Ansell's snarling vocal delivery and
Ms Carter' deadpan decorations give The Kills a run for their money. This
fine little duo really do make a big, bad noise when it suits them. Final track,
the epic '7 Years', made my toes tingle and plaster rain down from the ceiling!

There's passion and power aplenty on offer here. Catch it while its hot!

Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Consistency is the key to success, 12 May 2012
This review is from: In Time To Voices (Audio CD)
I love Blood Red Shoes and I could not wait for their 3rd album to come out. The record kicks off with title track "In time to voices", which I have to say is one of the best tracks on the whole album. The second track is "Lost Kids" a song inspired by the London Riots last summer and the bands new album. After that we move onto "Cold", if you are a fan of the band then you would have no doubt already heard this song as it was the album's lead single. At this point you have noticed a change in the bands sound; it is more full. You can see the progression, even if it has been a bit slower. Laura's vocals are also a lot stronger, the reason for this is because she says that it is due to all the alcohol consumed on tour.

The next two tracks are your typical good quality Blood Red Shoes song that we have become accustomed to. The album has a general mellower feel compared to the last one especially. It also has a few songs that feature and acoustic guitar, allowing for one of the best tracks, maybe even the best track on the album; "Nighlight". A song that features sparse drums and piano, definatley one the bands better songs. Then we move to "Je Me Perds" a distorted sub two minute song that is an overall rock out that I love. After that the rest of the album seems to drop to a steadily pace of quality, nothing mind blowing here, but still a good time to be had.

The band have always made good records but that might be there problem, they sort of started as they meant to carry on. Each album being as good as the next, and the previous. I hope that they will try and change direction on their fourth album because you can already hear that they have begun.

This is honestly a brilliant cd, i find a lot of the songs really calming and relaxing, but at the same time catchy. I think the song Cold is the best one and i can't stop listening to it!! Definitely worth it. It came in good condition as well. I would recommend this. Though it did take me a while to get into it cos it's not really what i usually listen to, but once i got into it i loved it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely excellent!, 22 July 2012

This review is from: In Time To Voices [VINYL] (Vinyl)
Whether you're a new or old fan of Blood Red Shoes I can thoroughly recommend this album, particularly in this format! The vinyl version comes with the CD version and I have carefully listened to both and have to say the vinyl version sound so much richer and my friends agree. Not only that but the album art and quality of the sleeves really shine compared to those awful plastic jewel cases with flimsy hinges. This album has become a proud part of my vinyl collection and gets played often.

First Blood Red Shoes album I've purchased, partly in preparation for seeing them at Leeds Fest. Absolutely loved it - partly addictive. Had to move on to something else in the car because I had it on repeat and couldn't give it up. Buy, listen, love. Bring on Leeds Fest!
