5.0 out of 5 stars Brain Links - Rock Cycle
I have been using the Rock Cycle card game with some of my KS3 Science classes; it works well as a revision tool and keeps the kids positively engaged for 10-15 minutes, or longer if preferred. Nerdy but, if rocks rock for you a pleasant talk-encouraging game and a great over-learning / revision aid for geology.

I have been using the Rock Cycle card game with some of my KS3 Science classes; it works well as a revision tool and keeps the kids positively engaged for 10-15 minutes, or longer if preferred. This is usually a difficult topic to grasp (and teach) so I welcome this game as a different way to learn about geology. The game comes with 2 different rules and pupils can choose whichever they find more suitable. Rules are very simple and can be learnt in a few minutes (the good thing about this Brain Links series is that rules are the same, so once you can play one game you can play the others as well). Most cards bear a nice explicative picture and a few lines of information; you can also get cards which explore extra-curricular aspects such as mining, earthquakes, art, etc. Cards are laid down and linked together according to a logical process of rock cycle: "rock" cards (e.g. limestone, granite, etc.) are changed by "geological process" (e.g. weathering, heat, pressure, uplift, etc.). In my opinion the game is also suitable to KS4 students and I would also recommend it as a family game.
