5.0 out of 5 stars Great replacement
I bought this as a replacement for the standard lens cap, and it works great.
No vignette even at lower zoom, and it's really helpful - you won't forget it for sure !

versus
1.0 out of 5 stars high quality plastic BUT LETS DUST/DEBRIS IN :(
The construction of the unit cannot be faulted --the plastic is high-quality and it seems as if it could give years of service, BUT!
The three flaps do not actually "seal" the lens in any way; dust, sand and water can still land on the lens when the camera is closed!

* when using the camera on a sandy beach, sand WILL go through the tiny Y-shaped gap...

1.0 out of 5 stars high quality plastic BUT LETS DUST/DEBRIS IN :(, 19 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: JC ALC-3 Automatic Lens Cap for Panasonic Lumix LX-3 - Black (Accessory)
The construction of the unit cannot be faulted --the plastic is high-quality and it seems as if it could give years of service, BUT!
The three flaps do not actually "seal" the lens in any way; dust, sand and water can still land on the lens when the camera is closed!

* when using the camera on a sandy beach, sand WILL go through the tiny Y-shaped gap between the three flaps and yes, sand particles will land on the lens... I had to blow dust/sand off the lens SO MANY times after turning on the camera, I found it irritating (also in that situation/environment, the three flaps will stop working/opening/they get jammed themselves, essentially keeping the camera from powering on)
* in a quick, random splash (say, while you are on a boat) ocean spray that lands on the Y-cap will actually make it onto the lens, creating a Y-pattern on the lens (that would never be a problem with the normal cover)

I have since reverted to using my trusty lens adapter as it is overall safer/better at protecting the lens! The adapter I am talking about:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001ILH5X0/
...makes the camera bulkier, which I now feel is a valid trade-off for the convenience (but low protection) the Y-cap affords.

To sum up: this product does not offer adequate protection for the lens while out in the field.
