Erja Lyytinen is one great singer and player of the blues, from deep down in the Finnish Delta. She is a very rich talent and a superb live artist with three excellent CD's already doing well. This though is the real deal, live and in full flight Erja has here produced her first full live rtecording, though she did have a DVD of the Blues Caravan Tour a while ago with Ian Parker and Aynsley Lister, but here she is in both CD and DVD formats with a full on gig recorded in Helsinki noa few months ago when she was touring her last album 'Voraciuos Love' ( itself a really excellent release). This release is mainly her own songs plus a cracking cover of Tony Joe White's 'Steamy Windows' the best I've ever heard this song since Tony recorded it originally, plus a very modern and enjoyable take on Robert Johnson's blues classic 'Crossroads'. One thing with her is if there is a cover it's always very original and fresh as witnessed here. She is a very good guitarist with a fair dose of slide throughout this set.Her band are rock solid, backing her throughout in the best way possible, just laying down the beat and she rides over it vocally and with some pretty fine licks from her different guitars involved. She has a strong voice that's just ideal for her brand of blues. From the earlier DVD on tour mentioned above she has continued to mature and develop into a very good musician all round. She deserves success and this live set proves the point. The CD is nearly 75 minutes long, and the DVD 82 mins. so you get very good value for money in every area of this release. The added interview is very short and says very little because here is where the nusic dies the talking and how. Already on my list for 2012's albums of the year-blues category. If you've no work by her yet, then get hold of this and enjoy the ride, easily 5 stars.
