5.0 out of 5 stars Good for C++/Java/C# developers, 16 Sep 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I would have called the book "iOS development for C++/Java/C# developers".

The book is very good for someone who already has good experience with a modern c-style object oriented programming language. The book assumes you know about object orientation, you know about memory management, you know about the difference between stack and heap allocations.... It also assumes you're already familiar with c-style syntax.

Further, it explains with a lot of examples. This helped me to apply the reading strategy "if you understand the example, you can skip the text".

I'm an experienced C#, Java and C/C++ developer. I bought this book because I wanted to start programming in xcode for iOS. I was able to read the first four chapters in only one weekend, which was enough to get me started.

4.0 out of 5 stars great technical book, however is somewhat didactic, 21 Jun 2012

This book discusses, in a complete manner, the SDK iOS 5 and also offers a good introduction to the programming language Objective-C. However, the book is somewhat didactic and is not recommended for beginners.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, 17 Oct 2012

In the world of software you learn by doing. This book has so many small coding examples (recipes) that simply shows how stuff is done. It is NOT build around a small project or mega large examples that you more or less have to follow all the way to understand. Hate books with that! Instead, this book has so many small and usefull tips in almost all examples. Really usefull. The author knows what he is talking about. Take this one home, its a big guy but worth going through.
