I chose this book because I have read another book by Matt Haig called Shadow Forest which was very intriguing. To be a cat was exciting and brilliant and sometimes makes you gasp. Everything fits in and there are no un - answered questions at the end. There are funny parts, parts that make you think back and parts that make you think '' This is a great book!''
I strongly recomend this book to kids who love mysteries and have a great imagination. It was possibly the best book i ever read.

This is a wonderful story, and the illustrations are marvellous. If I say too much about it I would give away the plot, which would be unforgivable. What I would say is that I still can't decide whether this is a children's book for adults, a "grown-ups" book for children, an allegory, a cautionary tale, or just a cracking good story. Probably all of the above! Well worth reading, and would be truly memorable if it was adapted for the big screen.

Although labelled as a book for 9+ that may mean for readers over 9. I read this book to my six-year-old daughter and we both enjoyed it.

It's a great story, full of fearsome cats and an even worse head-mistress, plus a vegetarian family who live on a barge.

Good fun, and had my daughter pleading for "one more chapter" every night.

I got this for my daughter recently, who is a book work and also loves cats so I thought it might be right up her street. How right I was. She read it in a few days and she now proclaims it as her favourite book of all time - even better than any of Jacqueline Wilson's! She has told me I MUST read it so it's next on my to-read list.

I liked the way he put a good sense of humour in his book. I especially liked the way he said things like 'hello, it's me, the author, again.' I would recommend this book to ages 8-12. I gave it a rating of four stars because as usual his books are extremely funny but it's not that convincing about turning into cats and everything.

Absolutely brilliant. I am an adult and I have read shadow forest and the run away troll. Matt Haig is an amazing author. I couldn't put the book down, I just wanted to find out what happened next! To be a cat is brilliantly written in short chapters and any adult or child would love this story. I recommend all his books.

It's not often I recommend a book so highly as to say it is AMAZING!!!
But this book is amazing. You don't have to like cats to love it, but it would help. It is a kids book, but hey, I reckon everyone should read it, young or old.... did I say it is brilliant?
Me and my 8 year old couldn't put it down.

Bought this for my son but he wasn't too keen on it. Being a huge Matt Haig fan myself, I read it instead. Beautifully written, as I've come to expect from Matt, and a great book for helping kids come to terms with the loss of a pet.

I thought that this book was very interesting and exciting. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend or family member.
The story was intriguing. There were also funny moments and quite scary moments as well.

What an fantastic story,I loved it. It was so amazing how Barney turned into a cat and back into a human. Although it was a bit scary when the Swippers we're chasing Barney but over all it was brilliant. A Banks
