Brilliant , could not put it down,

I read this book in 3 days I could not put it down,I found it heartbreaking, and to say her mum was cruel is an understatement, what that child suffered is just unreal, all I kept thinking while reading this story was I just wish I had lived next door to her, I just couldn't have slept at night if I thought for a moment that a little girl was going through all that fear and terror just over the fence from me, how very brave she was.A must read for anyone who likes a real page turner , 10 out of ten for me.

this is the sadest book i have read. i find it so hard to think that people turm a blind eye to child abuse. how could a mother be so cruel and actually obviously enjoy it.this is well written and really thought provoking. this lady has been to hell. i hope she is leading a happy life now.

The story of this girl's upbringing deserves to be told, but it should have been written by someone else to give it a balanced view, & with less dramatisation of childhood events. As it stands, the book suffers from too much focus on Anne's life ages 6-9, and not enough on the effects of her traumatic childhood on her adult life. It would have been interesting to hear something about her brother David's adult life too. I feel a chance has been missed here. If Anne had used a more straightforward style of writing, instead of talking about 'the gossamer feel of cobwebs' or the 'familiar fingers of fear', it would have kept the reader engaged. As it was, we were given a version of childhood that no-one could remember in such detail. It was like reading fiction. The ending was abrupt as well. It could have done with another couple of chapters to wrap things up & explain how the children escaped from their parents. That said, I was pretty bored by then so I was glad to finish it. Shame really, as we could learn something of how 'not to behave', by hearing & understanding stories of people who didn't deserve to be parents, & how lives of children like Anne's can be ruined because nothing can be done to prevent them from procreating.

left wanting more...,

I have just finished reading this book and as much as it disturbed me, I absolutely loved it. It took me onlyhours to read because I couldn't put it down. The ending did seem very sudden and I was left wanting more. Im hoping Anne will continue writing her story so we can see how her life panned out for her and what happened to her siblings. I'd also like to know did she ever confront her mother??? Is her mother aware of the book?? Did her father ever learn of the abuse??? So many unanswered questions for me. Please Anne continue your story for me in another book. I would also like to add that I wish you all the happiness in the world.

The story was o.k. but didn't like the ending. It seemed to end leaving you wondering how Anne ended up when she grew up.

Well no person should have 2go through that torture but I wish it had a better ending because it just stopped when it was all still happening. It would of been nice to read how she then met her husband etc. Apart from that a gripping read.

This story is one of appalling abuse at the hands of the one person that should cherish more than anything else in the world, unfortunately for the children in this story it's not the case and will haunt for a while after reading.

I gave this rating because I don't think it was very well written. There is quite a few mistakes and keeps going back. I wouldn't recommend this book to a friend, because is hasn't impacted on me.
