Not fully compatible with Dell Vostro 1510 - charging problems
on 25 January 2014
24 hours after using the Anker battery, my Dell Vostro 1510 decided it would no longer charge it. I now get a Bios message on boot-up saying it is incompatible with the laptop, warning that "the battery cannot be charged". I am using an original Dell charger and the laptop has the latest A15 Bios version.
The Anker battery was charging fine when first fitted and had excellent (~3 hour) battery life. Presumably the only reason it stopped charging is to force Dell PC owners to pay four times the amount for the "correct" OEM battery. The only workaround (which is inconvenient) is to retain the old Dell battery, boot the laptop with that and then swap the battery when the machine is running on the power adaptor - then the battery will work for another day and it will charge, even after the PC is rebooted. This technique appears to reset Dell's "non-compatible accessory" timer that is triggered the moment the wrong battery is fitted.
******** YOU'VE GOT TO HAND IT TO DELL - GREAT MONEY MAKING SCHEME TO FORCE PEOPLE TO BUY THEIR EXPENSIVE OEM ACCESSORIES. THIS IS THE LAST DELL LAPTOP I'LL BE BUYING! ********
I have now negotiated with Anker's helpful and attentive support staff to return the battery for a refund.
