5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Valantine's Day present!, 8 Feb. 2012

This review is from: Delius / Ireland: Evening Songs (Naxos: 8.572902) (Audio CD)
Beautiful compilation of songs without words by Delius and Ireland, arranged for cello and piano by Julian Lloyd-Webber.

Very romantic, warm, soothing tunes, perfect for a Valantine's evening! Lovely music that appeals to everyone, not just classical music enthusiasts.

I particularly enjoyed the "Sunset" track by Delius and the John Ireland's songs arranged for two cellos.

The Birds in the High Hall Garden track is sublime...

If you have listened to some Delius before and thought his music wasn't very melodic but rather made of rich and colourful harmonies, this CD proves that Delius' music can be melodic too, and what beautiful melodies he has given us!

Enjoy!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sublime, 31 Jan. 2012
This review is from: Delius / Ireland: Evening Songs (Naxos: 8.572902) (Audio CD)
A gem of a recording. The Lloyd Webber/Lenehan combo is at its best. Lloyd Webber makes the cello sing in these beautifully arranged songs and Lenehan's sensitivity to the music is breathtaking. Listen out for the very talented cellist Jiaxin Cheng. My choice for a passionate and sensuous Valentine's Day evening.

5.0 out of 5 stars evening chill, 31 Jan. 2012
This review is from: Delius / Ireland: Evening Songs (Naxos: 8.572902) (Audio CD)
Big fan of John Ireland, this is a great collection of songs by two of Britain's finest composers. As with Lloyd Webber's Unexpected Songs album the music is beautifully recorded and the performances are the best. All this for a great price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Box of chocolates, 5 Feb. 2014

If you are thinking of buying this - don't hesitate. The disc is a real "box of chocolates” collection to sit back and enjoy- each one a little gem played exquisitely with charm and subtlety by Lloyd Webber and Leneham. You will not fail to be delighted by these miniatures. I would pick a favourite if I could but each one is distinct and charming in its own way,

4.0 out of 5 stars Rare Delius, 11 May 2012

This review is from: Delius / Ireland: Evening Songs (Naxos: 8.572902) (Audio CD)
This album provides an opportunity to hear four very rare Delius pieces, "Birds in the High Hall Garden", "Over the Mountains
High", "Slumber Song" and "Mit deinen blauen Augen". These were all missing from my comprehensive Delius collection.
Admittedly I still lack the version with words intended by Delius but to hear these pieces at all is a new joy.
The works on this album all work very well on the cello and are played beautifully by Lloyd Webber and his friends.
Recording quality is excellent and this album is terrific value for money. Strongly recommended.Grieg/Delius/Compl' Music Cello & Piano

I bought this cd some months a go. Unfortunately i'm afraid i took too much time in paying attention to it .But tonight i decide to listen to it closer. I sat with my dog (named Mozart by the way ), and i put this cd on. What came next was pure plasure. I'm not a classic music expert nut there's no need to be to enjoy this divine music. The cello seems to be singing and each song has a special calm energy that is not usual to ear. Better than read about this cd is to listen ro it. You will not be disapointed getting this.
