If you are a Burn Notice fan then this comes highly recommended. It is a sort of prequel, providing a back story for Bruce Campbell's character, Sam Axe.

It is directed by Jeffrey Donovan, who plays Michael Westen the star of Burn Notice and he also makes a brief appearance here. The film is consistently amusing and genuinely involving. However it does play like a modern version of the A Team, and was clearly done on a budget. While the cast are decent enough, there is little use of extras, and despite actually filming in Columbia, for the most part it looks like they were filming on a golf course somewhere. I've never been to South America, but in Romancing the Stone it looked tremendous, here, not so much.

They could have got round this by filming scenes in the rain, picking better locations and taking the script writers along to actually fit the script to the locations. The scenes of conversations in vehicles with some very obvious green screen are particularly bad.

However these are minor complaints, this is a lot of fun, there are some decent extras, a short but funny spoof documentary, and a ComicCon appearance with Bruce hamming it up outrageously, as usual.

This won't win any new fans for the franchise, but a decent spin off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great film!, 16 Oct 2011
If you like Burn notice, you will definitely enjoy this! It is pretty much exactly like a longer episode of Burn Notice, only focusing on Sam Axe, Michael does make an appearence though Fiona is absent. As this is before Michael got burned this is not surprising. Though it does not take away from the whole Burn Notice feeling on the film. It is witty, funny and very enjoyable while staying true to the feeling and style of Burn Notice. It is great to see more of Sam, and his background, with a good Burn-Noticesque twists and story. It is Sams goofy and lovable character, with great supporting cast that brings the explosions, guns and humour together into a very great film. WATCH IT!

This review is from: Burn Notice - The Fall of Sam Axe [DVD] (DVD)
What we learned from this movie is that Bruce Campbell can only play one type of character. Fortunately he does it well. You know this is going to be a comedy from the beginning when Campbell as Sam Axe is escorted by two SPs, with serious swagger music, through mis-operating gates and doors. Sam is a Navy Seal. He is not the "kill Bin Laden" type SEAL but the have sex with the admiral's wife (Chandra West) type of SEAL. This lands him on a job in Columbia dressed in camouflage garb designed to hide someone in the middle of the Atlantic.

In Columbia, while looking for terrorists, things take a twist and then another, and another. Kiele Sanchez plays a clinic doctor and was marvelous in her role. And of course what would a Bruce Campbell movie be without a chainsaw? 4 1/2 stars. Acting is not something Bruce Campbell does well, but we love to watch it anyway. The twists is what made the movie humorous.

No F-bombs, no sex, no nudity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply an awesome movie, 13 Nov 2011

I'm a huge Burn Notice fan and I always thought that the character of Sam Axe was sort of mysterious and cool. In the tele series they never really explained a lot abut him, only that he was an Ex SEAL and loved to drink :P
With this movie they helped make the character better and more vivid as you know and understand the thought process of sam better.
Loved watching the movie, its just in the style of Burn Notice: Action, mixed with comedy and some drama :P
I'd recommend every Burn Notice fan watching it.
Easily 5 stars!

4.0 out of 5 stars More Bruce for your Buck, 16 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Burn Notice - The Fall of Sam Axe [DVD] (DVD)
As other reviews have mentioned: This is basically a long Burn Notice episode focused on Sam Axe (Bruce Campbell's character) and set before Burn Notice, telling the tale of Sam's final mission and how he ended up in Miami.

The film is fun and if you enjoy Burn Notice you'll enjoy the film. Bruce Campbell gets to have more fun with the character and his performance is enjoyable.

This was also filmed by Jeffrey Donovan, the Actor who plays Michael in Burn Notice and there's a humorous "documentary" on the dvd about The Fall Of Jeffrey Donovan and how he slowly goes crazy during the filming.

Overall I recommend this to fans of Burn Notice and/or Bruce Campbell.

The part played by Mr Campbell is endearing. Here is a man who is capable of almost anything to make good the sometimes totally unrealistic -and yet fully operational- plans of the brain man. The story, as invented in the special bonus, "The fall of Sam Axe" goes deeper still in the portraying of a good, sensitive, able soldier: a quiet hero worthy of praise and respect and a somewhat better example of courage and dignity than are most Comic Strip avengers...

this is a great movie to go with the series with classic one liners and a pretty good story line that was directed by Jeffrey Donovan. Funny special features especially "the fall of Jeffrey Donovan. Hopefully they do a Fiona movie so we can see how Michael and fiona meet, a must for the burn notice fans !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
