4.0 out of 5 stars For those who just need a hard copy., 29 May 2012

This review is from: Street Halo EP / Kindred EP [Import Japonais] (Audio CD)
There are good reviews for both Street Halo and Kindred as individual E.P.s and I would recommend consulting these. But to summarise, Street Halo was very welcome in 2011 as it was the first proper output from Burial since his highly acclaimed 2nd album Untrue. Soft synthy hooks complimented the Burial sound, which has become a benchmark in production. Kindred is the more genre breaking - a heavier set of delightfully muffled dance tracks which add some doom to the usual gloom, illustrating why Burial is still a good few miles ahead of his peers.

They do not create a cohesive album when put together; this is a compilation for those who want hard copies of both, as they were never available on CD and had only limited pressings on vinyl. I would definitely recommend the content found here, to existing fans and new listeners alike. But its really a question personal prefence as to whether this format is chosen over downloading one or both of the E.P.s individually.

Picks: 'Stolen Dog' from Street Halo; 'Ashtray Wasp' from Kindred.

This has to be my favourite CD of the year so far. It is quite beautiful from start to finish; atmospheric and stimulating in equal parts. I cannot wait for the next full length CD from Burial, a true genius of this genre and still at the forefront in his soundscapes which set him apart from the more clichéd offerings from the dub-step scene

5.0 out of 5 stars True compositions, 3 Feb 2013

Burial is my one of my current favourite newly-discovered artists at the moment. As a previous reviewer noted, these two EPs don't especially fit together played one after another, but I'm just happy to have been able to buy them in CD format. I've long been a fan of floaty/feminine vocals combined with tough/moody basslines and accompanying music/sounds and Burial doesn't disappoint with that. There are no tracks that I dislike. I'm not doing a track by track review, others have done that and I've not got time. Overall Burial is dark, yet sometimes also strangely happy, moody, mesmeric, bassy. Takes you to another world. This guy creates true compositions that the word "track" although technically correct just doesn't do justice to. Buy it!

I had not heard of Burial before I listened to the CD extracts following an Amazon recommendation (based on my other many and varied musical purchases). It is a quite superb CD and has a rather unique ambient feel at times interspersed with strong hypnotic rhythms and soulful lyrical input where the voice tends to be used rather more like an additional instrument. After buying this I now own all four CDs currently available.
