I have read some good reviews of this book but have been largely disappointed by it. There has been little which is new in the book and its tone is reverential. The woman, and there must be one there, does not shine through. I am fascinated by 'royalty' but am no royalist. Unfortunately this book tells me why.

I have yet to read all of this book but what I have so far read I have found very interesting, especially as it is written by an American author who explains lots of things well that are usually taken for granted as being already known, but in fact I did discover a few things of which I was hitherto unaware.

This is an easy book to read, clearly aimed at an American public, as the spellings are American throughout and superfluous explanations are sometimes given that a British person would not need to read.
I found many of the stories had an American lean too, with plenty of anecdotes regarding American Presidents and personalities.

Whilst the book is very kind to Her Majesty the Queen, and quite rightly so, I found it to be highly biased against Princess Diana, or at least unsympathetic towards her. The parts dedicated to her are certainly not warm nor written by someone who held her in any esteem. That leaps off the page.

There is one howling inaccuracy where the author states that The Princess of Wales got pregnant during her honeymoon, which is quite frankly ridiculous, if one considers the date of the wedding and Prince William's birth date. Unforgiveable error, easily checked. Poor research and even poorer editing (the error should have been picked up).

Very enjoyable read, from spellings and explanatory notes aimed US market. Sally, prince Phillip does call the queen 'cabbage, he called her that sotto voce at a school for deaf children who lip read the prince and roared with laughter.

I can't review the book itself - bought as a gift for a friend. Particularly disappointing then that the page edges are rough and badly finished on the long side, although the top and bottom are fine and the quality is otherwise good.

I got this as a gift and thought 'ah well' as I have read 2 or 3 biographies on Elizabeth II and would have also watched many documentaries so I was very pleasantly surprised when I found that I didn't know it all! It doesn't focus on any of her co stars or their stories to the degree that some other biographies do. The stories of Diana, Charles, Prince Phillip et al are only mentioned when relative and necessary and never detract from the story of the Queen herself. It goes through all her prime ministers and her relationships with them which I hadn't read about in such detail before and all in all it's a very enjoyable book.

Fascinating, A royalist to date but this book has made me review some of my opinions. Worth reading.

Nothing new , everything one has read in newspapers over the years. Very poor and not worth wasting time on.
