4.0 out of 5 stars DVD
This is an older film produced first of all on VHS tape format it is nice to see it has been transfered to DVD. A good film which is fairly accurate historically.

In 2010 Arrow released a DVD of this film under the title 'Battle of Sutjeska' and with a different cover. Although obviously copied from a VHS, I found its quality acceptable and gave it four stars. Which may have been a bit too generous, I admit, but let's say they were for the film itself rather than the transfer. Languagewise, the Yugoslavs spoke Serbo-Croatian, the British English and the Germans German, with good subtitles.

Two years later, Arrow has once again released a DVD of the same film, now using its alternative title 'The Fifth Offensive'. And once again the source is an old VHS, but of much poorer picture quality and with a soundtrack that is uneven throughout; sometimes clear, sometimes muted and sometimes dropping out completely. For reasons best known to themselves, Arrow this time chose a version dubbed in Spanish(!), so you have Yugoslavs speaking Spanish, British speaking English and Spanish and Germans speaking German, but only the latter consistently. On a couple of occasions, the soundtrack changes from English to Spanish and from Serbo-Croatian to Spanish in mid-sentence! Yes Serbo-Croatian, because towards the end of the film there are some undubbed (and un-subtitled) sequences where the Yugoslavs actually speak their own language. Maybe the dubbers had their lunch break and the production company wanted to get the job finished quickly? The subtitles too are sometimes rather funny; do German officers really address their colleagues as 'Mr Major' or 'Mr General', what on earth does 'Aren't they mind' mean and - who was PRESIDENT Winston Churchill??

In short, this DVD is a travesty!

The sound is awful, a mixture of spanish, serbian and english, real shame. Some or the scenes are cut, it looks like a bad copy of a dvd.
