Nice for a few games but gets a bit 'samey'. Graphics on the cards too simplistic to keep the kids' attention, and a few fun facts would help too.

We bought this game for Christmas and it was a big hit with all the family.

Players have to travel on missions in the solar system, visiting planets and moons, and then get safely back to Earth.

Clearly-written rules on 1 sheet of A4 make it easy to learn the game. There is also a lighter version of the game, recommended for younger players and beginners to help teach them the basics. This helps the kids to pick up the game more quickly - but the game is most fun when you include all the Power cards.

The Power cards (Black Hole, Super Nova, Hyperspace etc) are great fun and can really help to change the game to your advantage - it's a good game to teach the kids how to play strategically. It's all about playing the right card at the right time, and there are lots of twists and turns so that you're still not sure who is going to win until the last go.

The facts on the cards are an added bonus and are great for teaching space trivia, but they do not affect the game. The game does not require any existing knowledge of space, so it's very inclusive, and all ages can play and enjoy, even if have no pre-existing knowledge of space.

The cards are nicely designed, are good quality, and the game is an ideal size to take on holiday. All in all, a good value, fun, educational, inclusive family game - I would definitely recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, light family card game, 4 Jan. 2013

Essentially, this is a light, family card game that has a combined card and dice mechanic and that we have enjoyed playing - from adults to 7 year old (and five year old if you count just helping out with the dice rolls!). The combined card and dice mechanic means it's heavily luck based, but with a bit of stategy and push your luck thrown in.

The aim is to score points for making a return rocket trip to earth taking in planets and moons of planets in the solar system. These are represented by cards that you take from the draw pile. You start with five cards and each turn you take a card from the top of the draw pile and then play or discard a card. Playing a planet/moon card means visiting it in your rocket (and scoring points if you successfully return).

You must travel out from the nearer to the further planets in order (skipping as many as you like) and you can only visit moons of a planet once you've visited that planet. Most planets have two or three associated moons/dwarf planets (except Mercury and Venus). The further planets score more points (up to 5 each) than the inner planets (2 points), but it's more difficult to make the return journey (you need to roll the equivalent number or higher on the dice to make a successful return trip, once you've played a return to earth card). You can make as many journeys as you like in a round, but you only score if you successfully return by playing a return to earth card and rolling high enough on the dice (if you fail, you just try again on each successive turn without doing anything else until you succeed).

There are also power cards that can boost your success (eg adding to dice rolls (hyperspace card), doubling the score of a planet (comet card)) or messing up your opponents (eg asteroid impact (which ends their current journey), gravity (which gets them court in the gravity well of their currently visited planet until they get a high enough dice roll) or space pirates (swap your deck with theirs) etc). Also cards can have a general effect like Supernova which means you roll the dice and all currently played planets of the relevant roll number or lower get wiped out or Wormhole which reverses the draw and discard decks! Of course, if you hoard power cards then you'll be short on planet/moon cards to play and score.

I think this works thematically very well and is a fun, light family card game. Each round only takes around 15 minutes or so to play (til the draw pile runs out, when everyone who has the necessary return to earth card has one last chance to get home), but you can extend it by choosing a victory score and play over several rounds if you wish.

The cards are a nice size and seem fine quality wise to me. The art on them is functional rather than anything special. It comes with a die provided. If there is a complaint, it is maybe that there could be a few more cards to extend each round a little.

All the family have enjoyed playing astronauts so far! It can get quite nasty with some of the power cards resulting in vendettas, but as long as it's approached in the right spirit it shouldn't get out of hand!

Easy to learn, fun, thematic and, in my opinion, certainly worth a go for a short family card game.

This is a great card game. Quick to play and learn and lots of excitement as many games come down to the very last go to decide the winner. You have to balance risk and reward as you get more points for visiting planets and moons further out in the solar system but it becomes harder to get back to Earth and actually bank your points. Power cards in the game like the Supernova, Black Hole, Gravity, Space Junk and more allow you to change the game to your advantage or hinder someone who gets too far ahead. Additionally nice artwork and facts on the planet and moon cards (For info only) means I know more about the Solar System than before. Fun little game. Recommended for all.
