5.0 out of 5 stars Brillant
Really easy to set up even for a technophobe like me. Wireless signal is really good through house and adding powerline adapters instead of hard wiring is a doddle. Worth every penny.

Writing a review of my second one of these. I now have a pair which talk to each other over the power cabling in my home at around 170Mbps. End result is that I have two wireless access points running off one internet connection and some much needed Ethernet ports behind the TV to connect up smart TV etc. This box is great value right now but, with internal antennas, the WiFi strength isn't quite as good as some external antenna models - not an issue now I have two.

Bought this to allow me to use my Virgin Media Superhub as a cable modem as it was not great as a router. One of the major flaws with the VM hub is that it does not seem to work when setting up port forwarding. So I was disappointed to see I had the same problem setting up port forwarding on the D-Link. It is not user error as I have had port forwarding working on a Thomson router supplied by O2 Broadband (now Sky) for their ADSL service.

It was also erratic to set up. The automated procedure on the CD did not work. So I had to do this manually by logging into the router. The router was often unresponsive to menu changes. I had all sorts of problems setting it up from my normal desktop PC which I think was due to the fact I had two LAN ports one of which was static IP and one wasn't (DHCP). There is an automated setup option on the router GUI but that failed to recognise my Internet service. In the end I lost all Internet connectivity and so reset the router and then set it up again from a laptop The setup procedure requires you direct connect your PC to the router get assigned an IP address (router is 192.168.0.1 and so has to grant a 192.168.0.xxx address to your PC). That seemed to work much better and the end result was stable. Then changed the router static IP address back to what my Superhub IP address had been when it was a router (now has a different IP address as a cable modem) and so to all network devices it looked just like it did before.

But try as I might still no port forwarding. Plus for some reason the firmware upgrade procedure appeared to work but left the router on the original firmware. The product is over two years old but now discontinued and in fact the only firmware upgrade was about a month after the original version and fixed one bug according to the release note (and this was still over 2 years ago and so meant there was no ongoing firmware development even when the product was new to the market) and so one has to question the commitment of D-Link to support this product.

All in all it is not good enough and so I will have to go through the pain of boxing it back up and returning it

4.0 out of 5 stars DHP-1565 used as an access point, 12 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: D-Link Wireless N PowerLine Gigabit Router (Accessory)
I purchased the D-Link DHP-1565 to use an access point in combination with a DHP-1565 used as a router purchased some time ago. The two DHP-1565's talk via powerline very successfully and have proved very reliable. The downside of a DHP-1565 is the rather limited Wi-Fi range (in my house with thick walls) but the ability to link via powerline is a real advantage and extends the Wi-Fi range considerably. D-Link have discontinued the DHP-1565 and this has resulted in an Amazon price of about 42 which in my view is a real bargain.
