5.0 out of 5 stars Great escapism, a good action film.
In French with English subtitles and some English dialogue, this film was made with the co-operation of the French Special Forces and is a straight shoot without any CGI. 3.0 out of 5 stars over the top film
started off with a lot of promise and slowly descended into over the top. The director took poetic licence to the very limit.

In French with English subtitles and some English dialogue, this film was made with the co-operation of the French Special Forces and is a straight shoot without any CGI. It is very entertaining and the story is fairly believable. The action flows from scene to scene and is realistic. If you enjoy good old fashioned shoot em up action films you are going to love this. The actors underwent training with the French Commandos and French Commandos were used as extras in the opening part of the film.

There are some good extras including a very detailed documentary about the making of the film, this includes preparation, training, scene location and the actual shoot.

A great film for a Sunday afternoon or with your mates and a few beers.

4.0 out of 5 stars When the French do an action film..., 30 Oct. 2014
...they do it with style.

This is not your typical American pseudo-propaganda telling a tale of soldiers who think they're the best in the world. Mais non!

Instead we have beautiful sweeping landscapes setting the scene for the brutality of war, made all the more poignant by characters who for all their machismo, we can relate to as mere human being caught up in human struggle.

I don't mean to suggest that this is an art-house tour de force, but there is most assuredly an artistic eye behind the camera, who takes the rough tough soldiers against the world story and tells it with a light touch, and what I can only call; panache.

There are some heavy-handed moments of moralising, but that might be due more to the philosophical mindset of the French, rather than an Oliver Stone sensibilty which attempts to club you round the head with a message.

Oh, and there's a couple of explosions and loads of firefights if you like that kinda thing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice surprise, 25 Mar. 2014
Discovered this film by accident.

Very well made film that matches or exceed most films of a similar type that come out of Hollywood.

Give it a go!

A good film showing the performance of a group of French special forces in a wild landcape like Pakistan-Afeganistan border. The team is French on every bit of their behaviour , the performances are good , the landscape amazing .

A great story, magnificent locations and excellent action, this is one of the best war films of 2011, just because it is in French with English subtitles don't be put off. This is certainly on par with Acts Of Valour but actors play the parts and not real navy seals as in Acts Of Valour. The film was shot on location and adds to the authenticity of an excellent stand out film, don't miss out ,based on true events and up to date this is a must see film.

I enjoyed this film despite some mixed reviews. If you like 'Tears Of The Sun' or the 'Bravo Two Zero' story then you will enjoy this. The film looks and sounds amazing on Bluray. A great bit of entertainment that holds up to repeat viewings. Enjoy it for what it is - pure escapist entertainment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Viewing, 30 July 2014
not the polish of a Holywood inspired production, but gritty and real enough highlighting the courage and conviction of Special Forces members if you like this you will love Lone Survivor. Not normally one for subtitle movies but the occassional english dialogue breaks it up enough and the action is intense at times

4.0 out of 5 stars A traditional war-film, but French, 9 Jan. 2015
By
After Diane Kruger's journalist is kidnapped in the Tribal Areas of Pakistan a crack team of French commandos is dispatched to the rescue.

It's hard to describe this film any more fully without giving away any key plot points, but I think that fans of 1950's and 1960's Hollywood war films will enjoy this. There's a good dose of the Magnificent Seven thrown in there too.

Plus points are the scenery and photography, which are both absolutely stunning, and the performances which are as good, or better, than could be expected given the nature of the material. The final third of the film is particularly strong. Downsides are the one-dimensional villain, some unrealistic and bloodless action sequences and some clunky moralising.

Largely in well-subtitled French with some English dialogue.
