4.0 out of 5 stars A good film (even better if you haven't seen Pontypool)
Dead Air - yet another zombie film. And this one doesn't even have the budget of the Resident Evil films, so that doesn't really bode well.

It's about a zombie outbreak (or rather `infected' as the `zombies' resemble the `infected' people from 28 Days Later rather than George Romero's slow-moving `shufflers') in Los Angeles which starts off near a late-night...

Bill Moseley stars as an all night chat show radio jock in this lacklustre clone of '28 days later'. Terrorists set off devices in major US cities that turn people into raging maniacs with bleeding eyes that want to rip people apart. This is a low budget movie but it doesn't suffer from that, the production values are adequate, it just isn't very good. If its meant to be a zombie movie then it is just too tame, the infected are more like enraged baboons than the fiends of '28 days later' and they're just not scary. If its meant to be a thriller then it just doesn't thrill. Bill and his colleagues are doing their radio show when all hell breaks out in their unnamed city and a few of the infected get into their building. Lots of talking and a few fights happen and it fizzles out. Two of the terrorists get into the building too as they make their escape providing the director with the opportunity to explain the storyline and moralise about terrrism and the big bad government. This adds nothing to the already weak story. The whole thing has the flavour of a made for tv film before HBO got the guts to go realistic. It is presented in letterbox format with an adequate audio track and a few extras. Rent it if there's nothign else to watch but you'll still be disappointed, 2.5/5.

Bought this just for entertainment purposes and it's ok for a cheap zombie film. Its good for a one off viewing but nothing more than that.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good film (even better if you haven't seen Pontypool), 12 Jan 2013

Dead Air - yet another zombie film. And this one doesn't even have the budget of the Resident Evil films, so that doesn't really bode well.

It's about a zombie outbreak (or rather `infected' as the `zombies' resemble the `infected' people from 28 Days Later rather than George Romero's slow-moving `shufflers') in Los Angeles which starts off near a late-night radio station. The staff there have no idea what's happening and do their best to cover the sensational news story as best they can.

It's mainly set inside the towerblock/radio studios which masks the lack of budget as best it can. However, the film's biggest problem is another (`zombie') movie made the year before called Pontypool. It too does exactly the same thing, i.e. a low budget zombie movie set in a late night radio station where a smart-alec `shock-jock' covers the outbreak.

I quite enjoyed Dear Air. The characters were pretty believable and the plot slightly different as to the zombies' origins, but, all the way through it, I just couldn't get Pontypool out of my head.

If you haven't seen Pontypool and like zombie movies, I would definitely recommend Dead Air. However, if you have seen Pontypool, there's not an awful lot new here and it might come across as retreading old ground.

4 stars if you haven't seen Pontypool (3 if you have).

2.0 out of 5 stars Dead Boring, 21 July 2014

This review is from: Dead Air [DVD] (DVD)
I love zombie films, but could not even class this in the same category as Dawn Of The Dead or similar Romero films. The acting was appalling as was the plot were everything would return to normal by morning. I only gave it two stars as I love zombies, but in all honesty, don't bother.

4.0 out of 5 stars Zombie movie with a message?, 8 Aug 2012

I really liked this movie it's a pretty good zombie movie (especially compared with some of the tosh coming out recently as everyone and his dog jumps on the zombie bandwagon)

It made me think too (which who's ever heard of a zombie movie that does that?)

Evil terrorists set off a series of bombs in America releasing an agent which makes the infected people insane and when they die reanimate... Scary!

Mostly it's your classic zombie story, trapped in a building, seperated from loved ones, blah, blah, blah... who will survive? not many!

Politically thought provoking, to a degree, evil terrorists with an agenda, evil government who created such a dangerous virus... it makes you think 'let's face it if there ever is an apocolypse it's going to be caused by humans, and it's going to be caused by fighting / hating / bigots'
