Generally Good, but a Couple of Irritations
on 14 March 2012
The pebble is a nice little device, and packs a pretty decent punch in terms of recharge capacity. It's fully capable of recharging my iPhone back to 100% from near empty. Size wise, it's very pocketable indeed. Smaller than my iPhone, and nicely shaped to fit in the hand or trouser pocket. It has one of those fashionable 'soft plastic' finishes which makes it feel quite silky in the hand.
It has 3 lights to indicate charge level and another to indicate charging status.
I have a couple of irritations which really make the device not quite as ideal as it might otherwise be -
One is that the charging lead doubles as the supply lead, and while in theory this means that you only need to cary a single lead, in practice it means instead that you need to carry at least two tiny adapter tips with you - a charging tip that you have to attach to allow it to be charged from USB and a supply tip for whatever device you have with you - iPhone, Mini USB and Micro USB tips are provided. I can see these getting lost quite easily. It would have been better to make the charging socket more generic - say a mini USB connector. That way, any USB lead could be used to charge it.
Also, the iPhone adapter is not very good at keeping itself firmly attached to my iPhone. It frequently comes loose and charging stops. In the end, I resorted to using my own iPhone cable. This plugs into the standard USB output on the Pebble and does not come loose in service.
Overall - a nice little device, but somewhat compromised by a couple of questionable design decisions - at least in my opinion.
