Utilitarian reissue of three great late 80s albums
on 24 March 2013
There's something about the release of a new TR album (State) that sends me back to the earlier stuff and although I had Nearly Human on (a really expensive second-hand) CD I was missing the other two albums in that format so this seemed like a good solution. Despite what you will read elsewhere here, I think the sound quality is OK and perfectly good enough for the car where I was listening. My only gripe is with putting three albums onto 2 CDs which involves splitting the brilliant Nearly Human between the CDs. Having said this, the sleeve notes are good, with full lyrics and original artwork, and the albums themselves are all great although as with any prolific performer like Todd they ironically might have been better condensed into two outstanding albums in the first place rather than three just great ones! But that's never been how he has worked and who am I to complain when you get wonderfully emotional songs like Pretending to Care, Parallel Lines and Love in Disguise on each? So minus a star for the splitting but otherwise recommended as a really cheap way to get three great albums for around £10.
