This review is from: Heir Apparent - Digital Science Fiction Anthology 4 (Kindle Edition)
This fourth anthology is well up to the standard of its predecessors, offering a fair to good selection of modern SF. The editors have challenged readers to find an overall theme, which is difficult in such a varied anthology. The 'heir apparent' of the title might well be the mind-boggling proposition set out in 'A Lincoln in Time', with two time travellers vying to save their respective futures, each dependent on whether the assassination at Ford's Theatre succeeds or fails.

Other stories that I enjoyed were 'Ghostbook', the tongue in cheek idea that the deceased might want to stay in touch with relatives via Facebook; and the heart-warming story 'Father-Daughter Outing', where a resourceful young girl copes with a sudden emergency out on the lunar surface, a tale that rounds off the collection nicely.

One or two stories didn't quite work out or finished rather lamely, but there is enough here to be enjoyed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice, 20 Aug 2014
Nice selection of sci-fi short stories that introduced quite a number of authors that were new to me. By and large very enjoyable. I also like The End of America: & the rest of the world
