This review is from: Safe In Hell [DVD] [1931] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] (DVD)
Over the top with some silly and unbeleivable scenes. Many betraying the yarns stage origins. With the most run down degenrate looking cast this side of 'Freaks'.
Apart from leading man Donald Cook with his jack in the box appearances. Plus the wonderful Dorthy Mackaill. Surely one of the best kept secrets in movie history. This girl from would you beleive, Hull. Is fabuous and can carry off tough dialogue as well as Jean Harlow. To think that the Hays Office/Catholic Church. Stopped films like this being made in Holloywood. For some 40 years is mind boggling. And a clear example of 'art' being stiffed by reaction. With these pre code fims remaining unshown on UK television.Perhaps a censorship still exists.Whatever,do yourself a favour. Check this film out if you think you can take it. And not looking for a happy afterward ending.
