5.0 out of 5 stars Great Drama, Great Action
There is a saying that "there are no new stories" and this is a case in point. As other reviews have pointed out the struggling under dog, two battling brothers, "father issues" and the one last chance to get what you want does mean that this could be the UFC Cinderella Man or coming out in the same year even a bit like the autumn version of The Fighter...

3.0 out of 5 stars Those Who Are About to Die
`Warrior' is a film that appealed to us both. I was intrigued by the MMA fighting, my partner by the chance to see Tom Hardy with his top off. With actors of the calibre of Hardy, Nick Nolte and Joel Edgerton, `Warrior' must be the thinking man's `Rambo'. This is an apt description, but it turned out that not much thinking is needed. As a slice of sports drama...

The film was recommended to me and I was sceptical at first about watching a film about cage fighting. However for the last hour of the film I was on the edge of my seat practically living the film. The emotional ending was unexpected to. A fantastic watch for anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brotherly MMA, 5 Jan 2013

Evoking a great tradition of emotional sports movies, the warrior focuses its gaze on the brothers and mixed martial artists Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton and their relationship with estranged alcoholic father Nick Nolte. The film might be leading towards an end game of a huge martial arts event, but the real story is about rebuilding relationships and bridges in the family which is where the great moments of emotion come from. The martial arts might play second fiddle, but that's not to say they lack weight or thrills. Hardy bullies everyone in these scenes to the point where you believe that he could pull he door from a tank with Edgerton being more of an endurance fighter, al a Rocky. Another under-appreciated film and one that made me an instant fan of Tom Hardy.

Amazing film.
The Actors clearly did a lot in order to become suitable for their characters.
The plot makes you care about what's going on in these people's lives and you're rooting for the underdog to win.
There's a lot of action and some very memorable moments in the film (like when 'Tommy' - Tom Hardy - has his first fight against 'Mad Dog' in the training gym).

I saw this at the cinema, and bought the DVD.
I will watch it again in the future.
One worth owning :)

This is a fantastically written, superbly casted and well acted classic. It deserves recognition above that of the Rocky series as it is head and shoulders above it. You do not have to be in to MMA or the UFC to think this is a great film. The tension between the main characters and the non-fight story is just as good.

That said, for any MMA/UFC fan, you will not be let down. The fight scenes are realistic and technically accurate, meaning it does not feel like a cheesy, exaggerated (Rocky!!) battle.

A gritty, deep and well presented film. At this price on Amazon - get it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sets the gold standard for the fight film genre, 3 Dec 2012

On paper this film could not be worse.
On screen this film could not be better.
Watched this on a trans-Atlantic flight and almost stood up to cheer at the final scene.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow start, but better than expected, 21 Nov 2012
This review is from: Warrior [DVD] (DVD)
I enjoyed this movie in the end. I found the the first half to be quite slow as the movie built up the characters, background and relationships between the charaters. But the second half was quite exciting and emotionally charged as that is where the real action kicked in. I am sure I enjoyed the action more because the development at the beginning gave it meaning.

I am not a big fan of boxing, fighting or martial arts. So it was a surprise to enjoy this movie as much as I do.

In fact, I can't even remember why I decided to watch it. I probably picked it it because I though it was going to be some sort of sword and sorcery fantasy story.

In facr, because I didn't really read the back-ground, i got totally confused. At first I though the two brothers were the same person and I was seeing flashbacks. it was only an hour into the movie that I realised they were two different people.

Just shows my lack of attention with regards to names and such when watching movies.
