I'm not sure if it's Amazon's fault, different reviewers faults or the fact that these collections are not numbered volume 1, 2, 3 etc. but it's all getting a little confusing as the same reviews are popping up for the wrong editions?! This is a review for the Blue Hawaii, Pot Luck, Girls! Girls! Girls!, Fun In Acapulco and Viva Las Vegas edition.
In a nutshell they've all been released before, nothing new here. They don't really represent what you might consider Elvis' classic albums either. There are a few hit singles and a couple of above average album tracks peppered amongst the discs but the majority of the tracks are, well, just pleasant rockers, below par movie songs and fillers.
Blue Hawaii, a massive seller on release and the beginning of the end for his movie career, is the 1997 remaster which has a swapped stereo image from the original vinyl version, unnecessary added reverb and a few (unessential, dare I say it?) bonus tracks. Pot Luck, a studio album from 1962, is the 1999 remaster with an altered track sequencing from the original vinyl version but extra tracks to compensate. Girls! Girls! Girls!, Fun In Acapulco and Viva Las Vegas are the 2010 editions of these sixties soundtracks and utilise the recent Vic Anesini masters from the 'Complete Elvis Masters' mammoth boxset and to be honest they do sound fantastic. Unless you don't have these already though, the only selling point is they are all in little cardboard replica vinyl covers and will save a bit of room on your shelf!
Is it me or are these collections being thrown out at an alarming pace with no real thought to them? I mean come on Sony 'Kissin Cousins', 'Speedway' and even 'C'mon Everybody' albums are just as 'classic' as this bunch and are still awaiting their CD debut in anything like their original vinyl editions!

Four of these albums are film soundtracks, one of which, 'Viva Las Vegas' is presented here with all the songs from the film except one sung by Anne Margaret. Originally, only four songs were available on an Extended Play 45rpm disc. Regarding the package as a whole, the oddity is including the 60's straight studio 'Pot Luck' album which is the original album with the tracks in a slightly different order to the original album. However 'odd' its inclusion may appear alongside film albums, the bonus tracks it contains make a very listenable selection. Some of these bonus tracks first appeared on the excellent 'Elvis For Everyone' which, though a hotch potch release of 50's, 60's and film 'leftovers,' somehow worked as a great album. The 'Blue Hawii' album in this set include several additional alternate takes. The track on the 'Girls! Girls! Girls!' and 'Fun In Acapulco' are as on the original LPs.
