This review is from: Somebody Thinks This Is Somewhere (Kindle Edition)
I do sort of know this author, but that doesn't mean I was ready to give him a favourable review out of duty - pen names for reviewers are such a useful feature.

The book appeals on many levels. I maybe share some of Ged's prejudices, but he has described his thoughts and feelings, on experiencing a world of Americana that many of us will never see, in a witty and frequently self deprecating manner. The book gives his gut reactions to the towns, cities and in some cases, little more than villages, which have lent their names to a roll of 30 songs, that Ged has chosen, that contain the name of the places concerned, in their title.

'Somebody Thinks This Is Somewhere' is a travelogue, interspersed with the 'muso' level of obsession about an eclectic mix of certain songs and artists that Ged has an affinity with. Where it scores so highly, is that for all his curmudgeonly remarks about the USA's self-obsession, Ged shares this obsession and approaches his subject with a wide eyed enthusiasm, checked by rampant (nearly) Mancunian cynicim. These light and dark touches, make this a Gray book, but one bursting with bright coloured life!Somebody Thinks This Is Somewhere

I've even managed to be this appreciative, despite the fact I never received my free copy!!
