Another 'top class' cd from our friends down under 'Teensville Records'. Lets get the very minor niggles out of the way first - Sadly, the cd booklet is a sparse 8 pages albeit with some label scans, credits and a brief run through of each track - which I found to be quite informative. A couple of tracks are disc dubs but still sound ok. Now for the positive, the cd runs 69.29 minutes and what a glorious way to spend nearly 70 minutes. Sure, there are two or three duds, a handfull of mediocre songs but the majority of tracks range from good to very good and two or three are truly outstanding. How on earth was 'Debbie' by Rick Randell or the utterly fantastic 'The world is mine' by Barry Gordon not huge hits. There are too many other great tracks to mention, if you like teen music from this era (1961-65) then you'll love this cd. Stop reading this review and buy it now.

5.0 out of 5 stars All about musical failure, 6 April 2011
Teensville is part of Rare Rockin'Records which is an Australian reissue label and on this 30 tracker only Georgia Gibbs is out of place as she was a former hitmaker as well as being from an earlier era.A few others were succesful in different ways-Bobby Pedrick became Robert John,Dore Alpert became Herb Alpert and Dickey Lee became a big name country star while Jay was Jay Traynor the first lead of Jay & the Americans,Gene Thomas recorded for United Artists before teaming up with Debbie Nevells and charting a couple of times on Hickory but is unrelated to the other Thomases here-Judy and Nancy.Barry Gordon charted on Dot with One has my name the other has my heart-a revival of a country song first made by Jimmy Wakely
On this CD you hear what is virtually high school pop-the Playmates for instance had their biggest hits on Roulette but stayed with this kind of music once they'd moved to ABC Paramount and the song here is a cover of Johnny Kidd & the Pirates' I'll never get over you -which shows how America was covering our songs before the Invasion. This particular one was issued by Capitol who turned down the Beatles yet had no problems with what was in effect a Merseybeat copy!

The real standout here for me is Mary Sneed and When you were 15-she sounds just like Carole King
