4.0 out of 5 stars Liz on Top Form, 2 Feb 2012
This review is from: Night Watch [DVD] [1973] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] (DVD)
A surprisingly well-staged and effective thriller, full of twists and turns and a shock ending, and a highlight of Elizabeth Taylor's otherwise erratic 1970's career.

Brian Hutton keeps the direction taut, only occasionally allowing Taylor to indulge in Grand Dame Guignol dramatics, whilst Lawrence Harvey and Billie Whitelaw lend stirling and chilling support.

This Warner Archive issue is a very nice clean and clear widescreen print and should play on any machine, coming as a REGION FREE disc. Shame there are no extras - recollections from Whitelaw would have been invaluable.

Well worth a look if you're a fan of horror or 70s cinema - essential for Taylor fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars At Last I see the light at the end of the Tunnel, 10 Dec 2009

I have been searching Amazon and other sites for this movie. At last it is available but only on VHS. I will deffinately buy it when on DVD. What I remember about this movie is that it is entertainment at its best. The mysterious characters that make Taylor's life a nightmare, and the atmosphere that is created, is even more chilling than Agatha Christie at her best. Elizabeth Taylor at her peak. One of the great ones I remember from days gone by. Another movie I am seriously looking for is Triple Echo with Sandy Dennis and Oliver Reed. Please help if you can. Classic movie lover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Psychological Drama/Thriller, 28 Mar 2011

The death of Elizabeth Taylor has left a huge void in Hollywood's classical film actresses.

Much is made of films such as 'Cleopatra", which was one of the worst films she made in spite of her stunning beauty instead of concentrating on films such as 'Raintree County','Butterfield 8', 'A Place in the Sun' to name but a few. However, there is one film that she made in 1973 that, in my opinion made Hitchcock's 'Psycho' a non starter in the edge of your seat thriller.

She gave a stunning performance of a woman who thinks she has witnessed a murder but her best friend and husband do not want to listen to her and she questions her sanity, but not all is as it seems. I will not give any further details of the storyline, which equals any Agatha Christie plot but more terrifying. Laurence Harvey as her husband and Billie Whitelaw as her best friend also give outstanding performances as do the rest of the supporting cast. It was never a smash hit but just one of those brilliant British little gems that often get overlooked.

Unfortunately for inexplicable reasons, the film is only available on a VHS Tape, so many people are missing out on a great piece of movie making, the cinematography and direction being superb. It is in colour mode B&W, which makes it all the more terrifying.

WHY IS THIS FILM NOT AVAILABLE ON DVD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
