As Sci-Fi films go, this one was ok. Spacecrafts.... Astronaughts... Scientists..... Aliens... yep it ticked all the boxes but didn't have me on the edge of my seat like all the other 'Alien' movies. It was interesting to see how/where the 'Alien' story started out and will no doubt lead to another installment to the collectiom. Easy viewing, worth a watch but not in the same league as the original cast with Sigourney Weaver etc.. Have seen alot worse. :-)

The space jockey. Being a syfi film buff the alien franchise started too go down hill after the second film. Then out popped alien v predator batch of films which overall weren't to bad. But in the back of all alien fans Conscious was who was the space jockey sitting cocooned in his chair. Let hope prometheus answers all the fans questions . But out of 10 only 7 of my questions was somewhat answered. But it's still 5 star film let hope you think so too.

If you go into this expecting an action packed gung ho scifi film or one that has aliens bursting from people's chests every 5 minutes then this is going to dissapoint. Yes there are elements of Ridley Scott's classic film Alien especially towards the end of the film but this is an excellent scifi film in its own right about the crew of the spaceship Prometheus who with 2 scientists go off into space in search of man's creators but instead find that the race that supposedly created us doesn't want to know and tries to wipe out man with an extraterrestial weapon that looks an awful lot like an early version of the creature from the scifi classic Alien. Other elements from the film are included making sure that the film is at least set in the same universe as it were as Alien, the Wayland corporatian from the film is funding the mission, there is an android, David, played by the excellent Michael Fassbender, lead character Dr Shaw played by Noomi Rapace from the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is a very Ripley like character and the ship's captain played by Idris Elba has elements of Tom Skerritt's Captain Dallas and the creatures themselves are bassically the same ones from the crashed spaceship from the start of Alien where the eggs were found but the film does manage to go off on its own direction and the end hints at more to come. Performances are all excellent and while slow which will frustrate those looking for an action packed epic, it is visually stunning and is a very well made film.

Prometheus had a wait of expectation attached to it that it was always likely to struggle to meet. However nothing prepared me for how average this film is. Good actors, such as Idris Elba and Guy Pearce are wasted in something or nothing roles, with the exception of Michael Fassbender who has an excellent part as the android David.
Is the film an Alien prequel, well sort of. It is set in the same universe, but at the end of the film you still don't know how the Space Jockey craft came to be on LV426, or whether the Nostromo was deliberately sent there. There are several plot holes and it seems to ignore elements established in the other Alien films. The Space Jockey aliens which are such a key part of the plot seem to have no understandable motivations.
The film looks pretty as you'd expect from Ridley Scott, but it's let down by the story, too many charecters which are underdeveloped and a fairly woeful music score.
There's probably a good movie in there somewhere if there'd been a few more drafts of the script.

I'll keep this fairly brief:

I really enjoyed this film, it looked stunning (I saw it in reliably old fashioned 2D) and I enjoyed the story and it's background.

It nodded just enough to the 'Alien' universe, yet still stood up as a stand alone film. Shaw is looking like the new Ripley.

For those looking for a Xenomorph acid bath this was never going to be that and because of this, I think it will have better longevity for future films.

The franchise fell into the AvP thread, gaining a younger audience, but with that, losing a deeper, more interesting narrative. They have their place, but I wasn't interested in blood and guts for the sake of it.

This film is not perfect, but its great to have such good quality Sci-Fi at the cinema again. More please!
