We love this show. I actually bought the box set for my partner for his birthday as we'd seen seasons 1 and 2 on netflix and were dying for season 3. This is hilarious. I mean serious laugh out loud stuff and also relatable. A lot of the scenarios you could imagine happening with your own family. Filmed in a mockumentary style, you cover everything from gay adoption to arrested development, the trials of a stay at home mum and the attempt to banish Columbian stereotypes.
Seriously, if you haven't checked out Modern Family, do it now. We keep recommending it to friends and family. There are also plenty of extras on the box set that you just don't get on netflix so it was well worth getting seasons 1-3. Gag reels, deleted scenes, featurettes, everything.

If you've not seen Modern Family, you're missing out. The show follows one big, modern family split into three distinct households - Jay, a self made owner of a furniture design and manufacture company, and (2nd, much younger, Columbian bride) Gloria Pritchett, and her son from a former marriage, Manny Delgado. Jay's daughter (nine months older than his new wife), Claire has been married to Phil Dunphy - a realtor - for sixteen years, and they have three children. Hayley is working her way through high school with all the looks and personality of a Mean Girl, Alex - the middle child - is a bookish and somewhat socially awkward child who grows through the first three seasons of the show and Luke, the youngest is adventurous and has his head in the clouds. If you're still following, Jay also has a son (just a little younger than his new wife) Mitchell, a lawyer, who lives with his partner, Cameron. After being in a relationship for five years, Season One opens with them adopting a baby girl.

The 72 episodes that follow watch the family encounter new boyfriends, failed tests, valentines date fiascos, over-the-top Halloween celebrations, Columbian Christmas traditions and a quest for a stop sign, amongst other amusing ventures, in a warm, friendly and amusing comedy with a heart, that really cares for its characters and develops them over time whilst ensuring a mix of short and long running plot lines across seasons to draw you into an over-arching story line, rather than always relying on separate discrete stories. And, whilst the show is rated 12, this is mostly due to innuendo and implied language. I would still consider this to be appropriate family viewing.

The Blu-Ray encode is sharp, colourful, crisp and warm with easy navigation through episodes and a summary of each episode as you browse through. Season 1 is a simpler technical encode, enabling you to play each disc in sequence without any breaks within the disc, but only allowing visibility of episodes on the disc. Seasons 2 and 3 have a nifty feature letting you see all episodes, and just getting you to insert the appropriate disc, and 'Season Play' which, save disc changes, lets you watch all 24 episodes without interruption and continue from exactly where you left off if interrupted. This is pretty neat.

The Amazon description lacks information about Special Features, so here they are - along with a little summary of the ones I bothered to watch.

Season 1:

- Modern Family: Making of "Family Portrait" - Behind the scenes on the Season 1 finale
- Deleted Family Interviews - Confusing and unfortunately contextless
- Real Modern Family Moments - Enjoyable look at the cross-over between writers experience and the scripts
- Fizbo the Clown - Must watch information about the formation of this character
- Before Modern Family - Interesting enough interview segment about main casts prior careers
- Deleted Scenes
- Modern Family: Hawaii - Behind the scenes documentary for the episode
- Gag Reel

Season 2:

- Modern Family Holidays - Must watch behind the scenes information about the various holiday episodes
- "Strangers on a Treadmill" Table Read - Best Special Feature on the disc - watch the episode straight after and notice changes
- "Imagine Me Naked" Music Video - Missable
- Chatting with Steve Levitan - Interesting enough interview segment with a producer of the show
- Deleted Family Interviews
- Mitch's Flash Mob
- At Home with Modern Family
- Gag Reel

Season 3:

- Deleted and Alternate Scenes
- Destination: Wyoming - Interesting enough documentary about the episode
- A Day on the set with Ty - Good behind the scenes "fly-on-the-wall" segment
- Adventures of the Modern Family Kids - Worst Special Feature on any disc ever - see it to see why
- A Modern Family Christmas - Interesting making of documentary for the episode
- Driving Lessons
- Ed O'Neil Gets a Star - Touching and interesting footage of Ed's addition to Hollywood Walk of Fame
- Modern Family Goes to Disneyland Resort - Interesting documentary footage
- Gag Reel - Must watch, for the last 30 seconds of it

Put simply, Modern Family is brilliant! Inspired casting, clever writing, great mockumentary style and top notch characterization makes Modern Family a hilarious comedy gem. I loved it right from first seeing the pilot, and can easily watch each episode over and over again and laugh every time. Additionally the DVD extras are also worth a watch, with bloopers, deleted/extended scenes and on-set footage. I can't recommend this box set enough.

Modern family is brilliant. Well worth watching! And the price is amazing for what you get. If you watch it from the beginning you get to know the characters.
I am a big fan, I didn't think my sister would like it because she likes different programmes to me and even she laughs her head off at it!
If you haven't seen Modern family I highly recommend you watch it! You'll be glued like me

This is a very classy and well observed American comedy show. The characters are sharply crafted and the actors who play them are perfect. It's hard to choose a favourite character, or even a favourite couple. The quality of writing in consistently good and the acting superb. Very funny, very entertaining, and a great value for money boxed collection.

Takes a few episodes to get into the characters and then you are off on a journey of late nights as you sneek an extra episode in before bedtime - deserves the acclaim that follows this series.

Modern Family is definitely one of the best sitcoms I have watched - so after watching Season 1 I had to buy the rest of them on Blu-Ray! However, I did, have to rate the product 4 stars due to the packaging of the box set only. I find that the discs fall out quite easily when I look through them and the case that they are held in together isn't connected to anything. But apart from that I love the artwork and the episode guide printed on the inside is very handy.

I can't get enough of this show and am excited for Seasons 4 & 5 to be released on Blu-Ray!
