This is my favourite bit of cookery kit in a long time. The unit is robust and easy to use.

The temperature sensor is quick and very sensitive. I did have an electric food thermometer, but it took forever to warm up and measure the temperature accurately. This is a massive improvement.

I have used it for testing meat on a barbeque - this was terrific because I could be satisfied that the meat was completely safe to eat but I didn't have to dry it out to be in the safe side.

I also used it for testing the coolness of ice-cream mixture before freezing it, for checking that fish was cooked through and for boiling sugar to a specific temperature. It was perfect for all three.

It comes with a useful instruction guide with a table of necessary temperatures to be sure specific foods are safe - very handy.

Now I have this, I am not sure how I managed to cook anything properly before.

Thanks to the generosity of the good people at Amir, I have received this excellent cooking thermometer in return for an honest and unbiased review. To be honest, we don’t often use a culinary thermometer, relying more on experience to know when something is done, but we do use a classic one for jam making and the occasional technical deep frying event. Note that the model I received is slightly different from that shown on the Amazon product page.

This digital thermometer is a vast improvement upon our old one. As luck would have it we had a load of blackcurrants in the freezer waiting for a jam session, so we took the opportunity to test the digital against the classic in an almost controlled manner. The digital one is easier to read, reacts more quickly and is much easier to clean than the old one, all of which is a bit of a shame as I’m rather attached to our old one. The thermometer takes a single AAA type batters (not supplied) and comes simply but practically packaged in a moulded plastic case with an easily removed & replaced cardboard backing sheet. On the rear of this sheet are the simple and easy to read instructions and a handy chart of meats and rare, medium etc. with their corresponding temperatures.

Following the great success with the jam, we were planning to have a barbeque anyway so it seemed the perfect opportunity to test experience against technical cooking methods. Gratifyingly, my perfectly cooked chicken kebabs (it is always tricky to get the middle pieces properly cooked) showed a temperature just over chart’s recommended cooking temperature.

With the option to view temperatures in Centigrade or Fahrenheit, a handy hold button to hold the temperature reading when the thermometer is taken out of the vat of boiling sugar, auto power off after ten minutes or folding away of the probe and easy cleaning, this splendid and inexpensive thermometer has sadly forced our old thermometer into retirement.

I bought mine about a year and a half ago after yet another failed Christmas cake, and soon discovered it was an indispensable bit of kitchen equipment. We love fish and this helps me to cook it to exactly the right temperature without drying it out. Also good for testing cakes, poultry, boiling sugar etc. I couldn't be without one now.

This was a gift for somebody else who is a keen cook and they are equally as delighted. I will be buying another one soon for another gift.

PS. Also used it to convince poorly husband that the medical thermometer was accurate and he really did not have a raging fever.

This is by far the fastest reading cooking thermometer I have ever used. I was getting tired of standing there for minutes waiting for my old one to read the correct temperature. I am a busy person and don't have time to sit and wait all day. The LCD display reads the accurate temperature in SECONDS! Also, you don't have to worry about shutting it off. It has an auto shut off feature.

It reads both Fahrenheit and Celsius. You can switch from one to the other very quickly with a simple button. It has a nice long end so you can really get into the meat that you are cooking. Very portable, easy to use, and accurate.

Note: A supplier provided me with this product free of charge in exchange for an honest review. This has not affected my opinion of the product.

Excellent. No more guessing, no more burned chicken and no more apologies at hospital after you've poisoned half the street.

Read up on this across the web, the pros rave about them. I accidentally threw out a handy temperature guide that comes with the thermapen. I called the manufacturer ETI and the asking how much for a new one with postage and she couldn't have been more helpful. Was sent first class with a recipe pamphlet to my door the next morning.

Excellent and friendly service from a british company. Will definitely be buying from you again. Thank you.

This product arrived in Australia from the UK very quick.

Amazing product. my lamb racks come out of the oven to rest, and look beautiful when they are cut and presented on the plate.

Would recommend ThermaPen to anyone who loves to cook, or is in commercial cooking!

Even at half price, I was hesitant at spending this much on a thermometer; it's not like I'm Jamie Oliver. After one too many overcooked steaks, however, I took a punt. I'm very, very glad I did.

Although I bought this primarily for cooking steaks (the finger-to-thumb thing never worked for me), I've found it very useful for gauging the doneness of all kinds of meats. I'm much less likely to dry out pork or chicken by over-zealously trying to cook out every last bit of bacteria. With the Thermapen, it's easy to get the meat to the exact temperature required, providing safe and moist results.

I wish I'd bought one of these a lot sooner. I could have saved myself a fortune in medium-well steaks that should have been medium-rare.

Great accuracy especially when your mum puts the fresh turkey in the freezer on Christmas Eve. I would say this thermometer saved my Christmas without it I would have been stuffed. I had a query with the thermometer when it was purchased as I thought the probe was slightly off centre, but the excellent customer service from their team said it was the construction of the swivel mechanism and would not affect the functioning of the item. So top service and and company that really know what they are talking about. It seems pricey but it is better than having over done meat or worse off dying of food poisoning. You can clearly see where the money has been invested in this product and if you are a foody this is a very wise investment.

I can just highly recommend this thermapen - fast and accurate. Solid buit. Love it.

I used to have cheaper one, but visible slower and probe was thicker.

Money well spent

This item was a great hit over Thanksgiving and Christmas. Old fashioned thermometers don't come close to the speed and flexibility of this one.
