5.0 out of 5 stars Worlds of If
Great compilation of tracks by the first and best line-up of this early 70s British jazz-rock group, featuring the late Dick Morrissey on sax/flute. Well packaged in a slip-case with booklet which features an informative history, track-by-track analysis by former member Dave Quincy and many rare photos of the seven-piece (!) band; hence, a good starting point for newbies...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great but still disappointing
I think IF are one of the great undiscovered bands who never fail to amaze me album after album. This anthology has a great tracklist but beware that it is largely made up from 2 albums IF1 and IF3 and that some of the tracks are inferior live rather than studio versions. My favourite IF album is IF2 which only has one studio track 'Sunday Sad' included on this album and...

I think IF are one of the great undiscovered bands who never fail to amaze me album after album. This anthology has a great tracklist but beware that it is largely made up from 2 albums IF1 and IF3 and that some of the tracks are inferior live rather than studio versions. My favourite IF album is IF2 which only has one studio track 'Sunday Sad' included on this album and I would advise anyone who wants to explore this great band to buy either IF1, IF2 or IF3 before purchasing this 'Anthology'. A great band but this album could have been so much better if it had a wider scope and stuck to studio rather than live tracks.

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Great compilation of tracks by the first and best line-up of this early 70s British jazz-rock group, featuring the late Dick Morrissey on sax/flute. Well packaged in a slip-case with booklet which features an informative history, track-by-track analysis by former member Dave Quincy and many rare photos of the seven-piece (!) band; hence, a good starting point for newbies. It is on the Repertoire label which specialises in CD re-issues of mega-hard-to-find early 70s progressive rock albums. For rock trivia fans: the name comes from a sci-fi magazine and the title refers to a studio incident involving the also late jazz organist Brother Jack McDuff! "I moved the world just one step on".
