My vet said that my dog may have had an allergic reaction when recently his mouth and jowls became mildly inflamed. It started shortly after using this toothpaste and stopped after I reverted back to my usual brand. The vet suggested I compare ingredients panels to see if I could locate the ingredient for future avoidance. What I found concerning is that there is no ingredients panel on it as there are on other makes I have used. I am not suggesting this is toxic, but what if a child should swallow it and you need to seek medical advice - what is the first thing the Dr. will ask, what is in it? Which is exactly what my vet asked when I asked if it might be the toothpaste causing the allergy.

I wrote to Beaphar to ask that they print the ingredients on the toothpaste. Their response was that there was no legal requirement to display what is in their product, but it does contain:
"Anti-Plaque enzyme system - Protease and Glucose Oxidase - these work against the plaque formation and kill bacteria responsible for plaque.
Anti-Tartar components - Sodium tripolyphosphate and Zinc Citrate trihydrate - these reduce the formation of tartar.
Polishing Teeth - Hydrated silica - this removes the plaque in a mechanical way.
Chicken egg powder
Pork liver powder"

One other thing to consider; this is a very wet toothpaste. It will immediately start to run off the toothbrush and this may have an effect of how you normally clean your dogs teeth.

I originally gave this 1 star as I didn't like the fact that this information was hidden. Now I know what is in it I still can't say that I like the product, but at the same time I don't think it would be fair to give it one star because my dog had a reaction to it. At the current price of 3GBP this is good value for money compared with pet store prices and other brands and I do not doubt that it will help toward oral hygiene. If your dog doesn't have any known allergies to the ingredients then I would say give it a try.

I can see that I will be criticised for marking this down, but as far as I am concerned this product is 3 stars (it's OK), but to give it 4 or more I would have to I say that I like it - which I don't.

Bought this when it was on special offer. Good dog toothpaste. Tip : Try to get your dog from a young age to have its teeth cleaned. They won't like it but will come to accept it as part of their routine. First of all just play when they try to bite the toothbrush, just "dab" it on their teeth - all they will do is lick the toothpaste, but then gradually give a few strokes with the brush followed up with a treat, and gradually build up to a proper clean. This could take between 1 month and 2 months to achieve. just be patient as my last dog died at 17 years and 5 months of age and vet said her teeth were in extremely good condition. I clean my two dogs' teeth whilst watching TV, twice a week.

This toothpaste is excellent, I use an old toothbrush and gently clean round the teeth. After only a few cleans the teeth were looking much better and whiter. It obviously tastes good to the dog, but doesn't smell meaty. Reasonable price too.

Two Jack Russells with bad breath. Feel a bit bad because they had a little bleeding at the beginning. Spoke with Vet, just said go easy and the inflammation will clear up, which it did in a week. Now they both love it and breath is sorted! Plus, big saving on periodic scaling, and avoiding the risks with anesthetic..

My rescue dog had never had her teeth cleaned and she had a lot of tartar build-up on the canines. I started using this along with chews and must say she loves the taste and it really worked, and her breath is far more pleasant now. Very pleased.

Use regularly on both my dogs they seem to find it ok, one likes to lick it off the toothbrush so must taste ok, and is making a difference to their teeth and breath! Lasts a long time as well. Very pleased

having used this product for 14 yrs with our labrador - who's teeth we have countless comments on from other dog owners regarding their excellent condition and colour - including 4 different vetenarians as we have moved around the country, i have just purchased more of the product for our new golden retreiver puppy with the confidence that i know with weekly brushing he too will have the healthiest teeth and gums for years to come, excellent product start gently just rub the gums with the paste to get the dog used to the taste then introduce the brush starting in a short session then gradually working longer on the teeth until the dog gets used to it - he will be excited once he see's the tooth brush in a few weeks as they love the taste of this product - happy brushing.

Not tried as yet as I still have the different branded tube purchased from my vets, but this looks a very similar ingredients at a lot less cost, it was the cheapest I could find for a dog toothpaste that states it offers the same type of oral care for dogs....

Am persisting with my greyhounds teeth cleaning. He doesn't hate the toothpaste or love it either. Just doesn't particularly like the process especially inner edges. Getting better with time though. Have fun and a treat ready at end!!

Not bad toothpaste. Did notice in bigger 100g size you have to squeeze a bit more to get some of the toothpaste out, makes you think is there really 100g in the tube. Overall not a bad toothpaste.
