Creating a follow up to Monica's critically and commercially successful comeback album 'Still Standing,' was always going to be a difficult task for newly married Mrs Brown. Two years on, with no reality TV series this time around and Anything (To Find You) released months ago, there was little fanfare for Monica's sixth album. Even a duet with previous collaborator Brandy, 'It All Belongs To Me,' has nothing on 'The Boy Is Mine.'

Intitially, when compared to her previous album, New Life seemed a little lacklustre to me. However, it definitely improves on repeated listening as Monica sings about moving on from her previous husband Rocko and her 'New Life,' with NBA player Shannon Brown. Monica's vocals are excellent throughout and really shine on the albums many ballads. 'Until It's Gone,' the first official single, is a classic-sounding Monica song, full of hurt and pain and is the standout song for me. 'Daddy's Good Girl,' would make a fantastic future single and it is worth buying the deluxe edition for the bonus tracks which are among the strongest songs, including my personal favourite, 'In 3D.' Overall, I would recommend this album to Monica fans and despite not being quite as good as her previous work, Monica is still one of the finest vocalists around.

Couple of very good tracks - Daddy's Good Girl is the best by far.
Like so many of her albums the songs just aren't as good as her voice .

love this new album from Monica - R&B at its best.
She stays true to her style, but with a more modern take

This album definately has a direction and cohesive body off work.
It focusses on Monica dealing with her past, then giving herself the green light to take on her New Life and embracing it.

Big Mistake (YES SHE WENT IN putting the X in his place)
Without You (This is Monica 1+1 type song. Polow Da Don excellent job & love the vocal)
Until Its Gone (Love IT and has a reality to the message)
IABM (Love the vocals and what Brandy brings. Vocal skill appreciation)
Cry (Master-class of vocal arrangement. Love how Jazmine brings out the skill set of Monicas voice)
Time To Move On (old skoool soul Etta/Gladys style. Its vocally RIGHT on point)
{Tapped into Blues era & a twang of country music}

Catch Me & In 3D my favourite bonus tracks

The Rico Love tracks do a good job of making the album modern because the main stand out tracks all got a soulful 70, 80, 90s vibe with real strength in the vocals.

Daddys Good Girl is the hood type themed Monica track that we usually get but she giving us the GOOD girl this time.
Take A Chance is a nice vibe, cool lyrics. Easy single type song. Very current sounding and R&B.
IABM had so much crossover potential with the beat surrounding it and the vocal talents carrying the song, but needed to be fed to the mainstream a bit more imo.
Man Who Has Everything nearly was perfect but i had jus a few minor issues. The bridge section wouldfve been nice with Backing Vocal's like on the live performance & also think the reggae beat could had even more raw depth to it.

I give this album 4.5 as this is an album that flows neatly together and has a set theme.
Still Standing & After The Storm are my ultimate Monica albums so recommend those also.

This is a brilliant album - her very best yet.

Have been a fan since Miss Thang and Monica has grown as an artist so much since then.

The album kicks off with a phone conversation between Monica and Mary J Blige similar to Marys My Life 2, which goes in to the new Brandy colab It All Belongs To Me
Daddys Little Girl is a ballad leading in to the reggee influenced Man Who has Everything, Big Mistake is one of the albums standout tracks, Wale adds a nice edge to Take A Chance, Without You is a nice ballad with interesting tempo changes.
Until Its Gone - well this has been around for a while and is one of my favourite songs in a long while. My only gripe is that it sounds like it was recorded on emergency power or something with loads of hiss in the background. Sure this was intentional to maybe give it a retro feel ? but it just sounds a bit dull as far as the mix goes. Fantastic song none the less.
Amazing lives up to its title, Cry is one of the weaker tracks in my mind, Time To Move On is a superb gospel feel track.

If you have the standard or bonus option go for the bonus as the extra 3 new tracks are very, very good, Catch Me especially.
Anything To Find You is also included as a bonus.
Have had this album on repeat ......simply superb.
