Problems, Problems, Problems!!!!
on 27 January 2012
The last 4 M/Boards we've bought were ASUS and we've had no problems, until this one.
1 of the RAM slots (retention clip) was broken right out of the box. Would only boot with RAM modules in the other 3 of the 4 slots. Swapped the modules around, tried many configurations, would only boot with no module in A1 slot. Contacted ASUS tech support, the guy says the problem is the RAM isn't on the QVL compatible RAM list. Won't even respond to statement about broken rentetion clip on RAM slot. Debated whether to send it back, decided to continue to try to use M/Board with 3 of 4 RAM modules (12Gb instead of 16Gb).
Loaded OS, software etc. Looked good but suddenly after only 1 day of use one of the HDDs suddenly started going really slowly. Turned PC off, checked the cables etc. Looked OK but when we attempted to turn it back on it refused to boot again. Have disconnected all HDDs except 1, still wouldn't boot. There is a light on the M/Board that indicates there is a problem with a boot device (HDDs), have tried USB drives, DVD drives, SATA HDDs, IDE HDDs (with PCIe adapter card), including the ones that worked fine at first, reset CMOS, etc. nothing works, it just won't boot any more. First it doesn't work, then it works and then suddenly it won't boot again. Searched the internet and a lot of people are having the same problems with this M/Board not booting because of RAM and HDD issues. Tired of trying to get M/Board to work correctly, it must be faulty.
Have arranged a return with Amazon. Do your research first, google all the problems people are having with this M/Board, don't make the mistake we did by assuming all ASUS M/boards will work without any problems.
