Fascinating book,

I took this away with me on honeymoon - it's a really good read. I warmed quickly to the lead character and the writer's descriptions of the landscape and setting are very vivid. He paints very good pictures of windy, rainy "oop north". Good twist at the end and an entertaining book for taking on holiday.

This is a great first book. Each page has something exciting happening. The characters are real and you are left wanting more at the end. Sometimes it can be dark, but it reflects real life. Definitely one to read.

For a first publication, the book is daringly structured, being in the first person present, and at one point with two parallel narratives. The descriptive style gives a vivid insight into the Lancashire environment of the characters involved - quite scary at times! The bonds between the main character and his family give a welcome contrast to the violent nature of other characters - one of whom eventually proves himself to be different and initiates a dramatic twist to the events.Well done Mr Estrey!

Great debut novel,

A real page turner that kept me intrigued to the end - well written - Lawrence Estrey expertly builds the suspense and brings to life the people and places of the North West, just as I remember them from my childhood growing up in Lancashire - a very good debut novel.
