Superb writing, so we'll put together. SJA Turney has written an amazing series.

At least by book 3 he's distinguished 'lightening' and 'lightning', but surely 'belay' is a nautical term far removed from BC Roman legions; one of several anachronisms. I accept that JC was an egomaniac using his decent grasp of generalship to make his name by conquest, but the idea that after a major battle with massive losses to men and equipment he could have his army on the move within a day beggars belief; as does 'the eaves of the wood'. A good yarn, increasingly unrealistic, and in places horribly ungrammatical and slovenly proof-read - if anybody even bothered.

This series of books has really done the author credit,I just could not put them down and now find myself eagerly awaiting the next installment. The characters leap off the pages at you and you can be forgiven for drifting off in the mists of time and actually feeling like you are watching as an eye witness the events unfolding before you.Top quality entertainment that will keep you riveted.

So far the best novel in the Maruis Mules series.

Standard pesky Gauls revolting under the rule of Roman authority (how dare they!), Caesar stepping in with trusty Fronto and other familiar tribunes. However this book has a major battle in the middle of the book, which means the novel is not leading up to a major barbarian kicking action throughout. This was a pleasant surprise
