5.0 out of 5 stars All most people need., 28 Oct 2011

If you want to browse the internet, send emails or write a letter and print it (printer required) or speak to your friends and family anywhere in the world for free using Skype, this is all you really need. You can listen to music, watch a DVD and burn your files to CD, edit a video and manipulate your photo's. Why waste another 300+ for some fancy new gizmo when this will fulfil all the computing needs that 90% of people require. Grab a cheap monitor, keyboard and mouse (Kbd & Mse free with some offers) and you're off. My big tip is ditch 'Windows' and install Linux Mint LXDE (free) with over 30000 free programs and watch this perfectly adequate computer fly. This has been written on this very model of computer running Linux Mint LXDE, browsing in Firefox whilst using Skype and listening to 'Wasting Light by the Foo Fighters'. You can even, if you want, run 'Windows 7' if you add extra RAM, I did for a day, but hey why would you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Budget PC, 9 April 2014

One can spend a lot of money on a computer, and never use the thing to it's full potential, or one can spend wisely, and do a heck of a lot with a machine that PC salesmen in certain high street retailers, will tell you with an earnest look on their faces, is 'old hat'.

This example comes preloaded with Windows XP - which can easily be replaced with a free Linux Distribution - and also has OpenOffice 4 on.

The upshot is, this PC will do 99.99999999% of everything that the average user needs, and I would rather spend 40 on this machine than 300 on a fancy piece of wundertech, and all the problems that go with such an item.

Windows XP was the last Microsoft OS that actually bloody well WORKED....which, for me is the deciding factor in purchasing any machine. As I say, if you want a truly bombproof machine, sling XP and get Linux on it. Job done.

UPDATE - the unit I received actually came with about 70GB of hard drive, and 1GB of ram. I really can't fault this purchase. On a technical note, it's a breeze to work on. I've already penciled in a few upgrades. Not worried about loosing the OS, because I intend to use XP until it dies, and then replace it with a Linux distro. Unless you have a very specialised need for a certain kind of PC, I would not spend a penny more on a machine, not when you can get one this good for the price!

...And finally...with the purchase of a USB wireless adapter, I can now surf the net. I've swapped out the 8OGB HDD for a 500GB model, and ditched XP. I now have Linux Mint 16 Petra on it, and will be running Trisquel GNU Linux alongside it.

Great if you want a budget mini tower. Worked immediately when plugged in. Bought for grandchildren to use when they visit. Cannot fault at the price. Delivery was within 24 hours of ordering and I did not pay for express delivery. Couldn't believe my eyes when it was delivered the next day in the Best Packaging I have seen.

THE ITEM ARRIVED FAIRLY QUICKLY AND WHEN IT WAS SET UP I WAS UNABLE TO GO ON LINE. I CONTACTED THE "EXPERTS" AT TALK TALK BUT AFTER A LOT OF MESSING ABOUT THEY COULD NOT HELP. PHONED THE SUPPLIER AND WAS ASKED TO CHECK THE TIME AND DATE ON THE INTERNAL CLOCK. THE CALENDAR WAS WAY OUT OF DATE. I WAS THEN ASKED TO SET THE TIME AND DATE ,WHICH I DID AND THE COMPUTER WORKED FINE. A GOOD BUY
SO, IF YOU BUY A RECON COMPUTER, CHECK THE INTERNAL CALENDAR FIRST!!
