This review is from: Classic British Film Music : Volume 2 (Audio CD)
Filmophone in the UK have given us avid film music fans another excellent release - volume 2 in their "Classic British Film Music" series of CDs.
Taken from commercial 78's, 45s and other rarities (like the Rank FM series of film music, which was only available non-commercially), there is something for everyone here, from the jaunty "League Of Gentlemen: March" composed by Philip Green, to Larry Adler's haunting "Love Theme" from "Genevieve". A veritable treasure-trove of melodic film music from the Golden Age of cinema.
A "must-buy"!
Tracks are as follows:

1 Genevieve Waltz/ Larry Adler
2 Genevieve Love Theme & Blues/ Larry Adler
3 The 39 Steps (1959)/ Muir Mathieson & Orchestra
4 The Black Tent/ Muir Mathieson & Orchestra
5 The Moonraker/ Laurie Johnson and his Orchestra
6 The Hour of Meditation (from "24 Hours Of A Woman's Life")/ Sidney Torch and his Orchestra
7 No Orchids for Miss Blandish : Introduction/ The Melachrino Orchestra conducted by George Melachrino
8 No Orchids for Miss Blandish : Danse D'Extase/ The Melachrino Orchestra conducted by George Melachrino
9 The Whirlpool Theme/ Ron Goodwin and his Concert Orchestra
10 Pool of London/ Philharmonia Orchestra Conducted By Ernest Irving
11 Theme from "The Man Between"/ Cyril Stapleton and His Orchestra
12 Tiger Bay/ The Pinewood Studio Orchestra Conducted by Philip Green
13 Yield To The Night/ Ray Martin and his Concert Orchestra
14 We Are The Lambeth Boys/ Johnny Dankworth and His Orchestra
15 Duet For 16 (from "We are the Lambeth Boys")/ Johnny Dankworth and His Orchestra
16 Riverside Stomp (from "The Criminal")/ Johnny Dankworth and His Orchestra
17 Freedom Walk (from "The Criminal")/ Johnny Dankworth and His Orchestra

Absoloutely delighted to get this long awaited selection of British film music. I, who grew up in the cinema in the 40's and 50's many of these films I now own on dvd. Music has always been important in my life and the film music I collected during the 78rpm days and lp days, not much was forthcoming from the British films. Now there are quite a few out there on cd. This selection is a little different. None have been available on cd before. The quality is excellent if one accepts the time of the original issues. The surface clean up is excellent and as is said in the booklet, the worst is Pool of London track, personally I had no problem with that, to me it was just fine.
I just hope that we will be getting more of the same from this company.

It is always good to see a film music compilation that does not contain the 'usual suspects'. Apart from the 'Genevieve' music I can't recall any of these tracks being issued on CD before. It is good to have some of Philip Green's excellent music for 'League of Gentlemen', 'The Shakedown', 'Tiger Bay' and 'Sapphire', originally issued on 45rpm on the short-lived Top Rank label, available at last alongside Johny Dankworth's jazzy 'Criminal' score and Ron Goodwin's 'Whirlpool' theme. The transfers are excellent and the sound vivid and clear for such old recordings. Filmophone are to be congratulated for unearthing these treasures and presenting them so well.

I particularly wanted the Genivieve sound track as i had made a DVD of my Rotary Clubs Classic car rally.
I have used several other tracks.
It is now in my car giving me happy hours of music.
