4.0 out of 5 stars Remastered but a missed opportunity
This is album is really good fun but as the previous reviewer points out, it misses out "Smallness Of The Mustard Pot" from the original LP listing & replaces it with the awful "Waterloo", a novelty single, that represented the Medics as a novelty band, something they had never really been before the release of that tacky mess (I had been to see them live on at least four...

3.0 out of 5 stars Where's the rest???
I'm writing this review before I receive this CD and having finally seen the track listing. But where's the rest of the album? Why give us "Burnin' Love" but not the single "Burn", and why "Waterloo" but miss off "Smallness of the Mustard Pot"? It looks like this CD will run for about 40 minutes - plenty of space left for these missing tracks, and for all those great...

4.0 out of 5 stars Remastered but a missed opportunity, 19 Aug 2007

This is album is really good fun but as the previous reviewer points out, it misses out "Smallness Of The Mustard Pot" from the original LP listing & replaces it with the awful "Waterloo", a novelty single, that represented the Medics as a novelty band, something they had never really been before the release of that tacky mess (I had been to see them live on at least four or five occasions before "Waterloo" came out & they were never treated as a "novelty" but more as a retro psychedlic rock band that pulled in a crowd that was a veritable cross section of British sub culture)
The real missed opportunity in my view however, is that they could (& should) have packaged this "remastered edition" to include the excellent tracks from the "Happy But Twisted" & "Miracle Of The Age" 12" singles / EPs - these two releases are probably the best work the Medics have produced & capture the essence of their superb live performances back in the mid to late eighties, at compact sweaty venues - they were truly excellent live (in fact they might have thought about putting the "Two Pieces Of Cloth Carefully Stitched Together" 12" EP on here too)
So, an enjoyable album (standout tracks are probably "Fried Egg Bad Monday", "Lucky Lord Jim" & "Kettle On A Long Chain")but sadly, not as good as it could have been.

I'm writing this review before I receive this CD and having finally seen the track listing. But where's the rest of the album? Why give us "Burnin' Love" but not the single "Burn", and why "Waterloo" but miss off "Smallness of the Mustard Pot"? It looks like this CD will run for about 40 minutes - plenty of space left for these missing tracks, and for all those great b-sides that are not available on CD. I would have given this CD 5 stars for the music alone (it was such a great album) but have deducted 2 stars - one for each of the missing tracks!

This review is from: Laughing At The Pieces (Audio CD)
This is the venerable Dr Clive's debut album with his Medics, which originally came out when they were riding high in the charts.

It's a fun album, packed full of psychedelic sounds and crazy lyrics. But this re-release is something of a missed opportunity, with plenty of space left for bonus tracks, which could have made this a real bonanza...anyway, the album brought back happy memories and reminded me that they weren't just a one trick pony.
