5.0 out of 5 stars It could have been very cheesy.....
But it really isn't.

In Palm City Vince Faraday is a happy man, a good cop, a good husband, a good father. Until one day he receives a mysterious message from Internet whistle blower "Orwell" advising him where the notorious crime lord "Chess" is shipping illegal weapons into Palm City. Vince trusts one person to go with him to uncover the shipment, that one...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too little too late
This had great potential as a series and I watched it with a fair amount of hope - after episode 4 I skipped past a couple just to see if it moved on - it was just too slow!!

Once the story moved past the whiny mopey 'everything sucks' phase it became quite enjoyable - fun, action packed and with good story lines. It's just a shame it started so slowly - it's...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad show, 23 Feb 2014
This review is from: The Cape: The Complete Series [DVD] (DVD)
Granted the show has many flaws but it wasn't the worst show. It's your typical story from a superhero perceptive, man has a traumatic experince becomes a masked crusader . He learns "powers " practically over night as one of the many flaws in the show. You can't have a hero without villians the main two are probably chess a not so original character to the outside world he pretends he wants to help the city. Behind closed doors is a man making moves to get what he wants . The other is scales also not very original the muscle and thug of the show. Every so often You get few other characters who are stopped by the cape but they don't develop these villains enough for You really to care about the story. The concept is good the execution of it wasn't. 5 star is too kind way to kind. 1 star is harsh as there is far more worse shows. Overall it's decent enough but they could have made this a massive hit

4.0 out of 5 stars Flawed but good fun, 24 Nov 2012

Honest cop Vince Faraday is framed for a crime he didn't commit. To more effectively battle the corrupt system that framed him, and to simultaneously clear his name, he enters the underworld and assumes a new identity. Vince Faraday becomes The Cape!

You can probably already tell by that intentionally cheesy synopsis that The Cape is a superhero series that doesn't do anything particularly new or inventive. What it does is give the familiar a new skin, and it does it with tongue in cheek while keeping one hand on the accelerator. It has the camp charm of the 1960's Batman TV Series, with the action and scripting of a modern TV show. Its greatest strength is that it revels in its comic book inspirations, and if you embrace that same sense of adventure you'll enjoy it a lot more.
Vince Faraday is played by David Lyons. I'd not seen him act before. He starts out a little blank but gets better as the character develops more. He learns to brood.
What really pulled me in was the supporting cast, they are wonderful: Keith David brings the awesome, Summer Glau brings the intelligent and sexy, and Vinnie Jones brings the Vinnie Jones.
On the flip side the main villain, Chess, lacks any real menace or charisma. He's the typical corporate bad guy with an endless supply of cash to fund his criminal endeavours. Mercifully, he isn't the only antagonist.
The series was cancelled just when it was starting to get really good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daft but fun, 23 Oct 2012
This review is from: The Cape: The Complete Series [DVD] (DVD)
"The Cape" is a weird mix of Christopher Nolan's dark and brooding Batman and Joel Schumacher's campy Batman. It has scenes of great peril and scenes that are just pretty damn weird. The best thing about the series is the cast - Keith David, Summer Glau and James Frain, joined in some episodes by Vinnie Jones.

I actually only heard about The Cape when it was mentioned in Community; Abed dresses up like the Cape and says the series will last "Six seasons and a movie". Jeff comments he thinks it will last just three weeks.

bought this series having seen some of it on television plus summer glau was in it really big fan of hers brilliant actress so i was quiet intrigued my thoughts were it was not to bad only problem was that they didnt use the talent of summer very well as in firefly or sarah connor chronicles which she was amazing but i watched it right to the end and i thought it deserved a second series ok the script could have been better but it had potential to do better with another season but like everything on american tv they just seem to cancel them after one season with out giving them a chance anyway it was pretty good

One of the worst tv series ever made. It was so incredibly corny and poorly done i can't see how anyone could give it 5 stars.
