Ma Teng wants to live a peaceful life with his family. The emperor however is terrorizing the local people and has a new Guillotine built which can defeat his umbrella device. After Ma Teng's family are killed he joins up with a band of rebels to exact revenge.

After the success of the first film, Shaw Brothers wanted to cash in and make a sequel. However the film was plagued with problems from the start. The director Cheng Kang and it was due to return one of Shaw Brothers biggest money makers in Chen Kuan Tai from the first film to reprise his role as Ma Teng. However a few months in and both quit the film.

Ti Lung however was brought in to star as Ma Teng. He even grew a moustache to look like the character from the original film. He is supported by a good cast including Ku Feng as the evil Emperor (A different role from the first film), Lo Leih and Frankie Wei Hung as his henchmen. Then we have the beautiful Shi Szu as a female rebel who poses as the emperors bodyguard to get close to him.

Unfortunately Ti Lung is not really in the film in the first half. It mainly focuses on its other actors, its not that I didn't like them I was just expecting Ti Lung to be in the film more. It doesn't really feel like a sequel to the first film even more so without Kuan Tai and vertually none of the same characters returning, or if they do return they are played by different actors.

With it been made by two different directors it feels a very disjointed film. I didn't really like the fast cutting and editing. Even more annoying was that the camera constantly pans from place to place and it feels awkward. I think Chang Cheh could've made this film a lot better.

The character development from the first film is thrown away here and it mainly focuses on its action scenes. We get a lot of sword fights and massive fight scenes. We do however get a lot less kills by the new Guillotine unfortunately, which can still kill even when it is deflected. The final fight however is great, were out heroes attempt to kill the emperor in a massed attack on his castle. Were they are all slowly cut down one by one.

Overall its a good film but not as good as the first movie.
