This release caught me out. I thought I was buying a new recording but alas this is not the case. This album is in fact "FROM SOUTHSIDE TO TYNSESIDE" released in 2008. It has been re packaged and re titled.
WHY ? Well that's a good question.Check out reviews for the Southside to Tyneside as all tracks are the same.
Good album as that is for a live recording this release brings nothing new other than the title. BUYERS BEWARE.

I was at this concert-at what was the new tyne opera house.......southside and the band had blown the place apart the previous year,.....this concert was all set up to record......unfortunately southside had a heavy cold and throat infection....most guys would ve cried off but he kept the date......and performed admirably for a not very well bloke........so yes, it s not their best.....but there s a reason why.........catch their other live stuff-even better catch em live........best live band ever.....

I'll admit that I'm a big fan of Southside Johnny and the Jukes and have a soft spot for their brand of rhythm and blues but this is a bit of an odd release. If I'm not mistaken this has previously been available as Southside to Tyneside and is a live double set recorded around 2002 in Newcastle. I've been lucky enough to catch the band live and they are absolutely electric on stage but this recording seems strangely flat. I'm not sure if this is down to dodgy production or whether they caught the band on a rare off night but there is no spark or energy. The live DVD which is available is similarly off colour. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with the songs, indeed the set tends more towards Southsides blues numbers, and the vocals are as good as ever but with a band this good you expect a little bit more. I'm not sure what triggered this release under the Cadillac Jack monicer perhaps it is to give it that official bootleg image, and to be honest that what it sounds like. However, its cheap enough for a double CD and fans may like it but it is not an ideal starting point if you are not already familiar with the band. All in all it's a bit of an odd one and perhaps with a few more plays it might grow.
