Experimenting with Apple OSX
on 12 August 2013
I bought this apple mini to become more familiar with apple OSX. The mini, as its name implies was small and compact, would fit onto any desk and worked effectively and was a cheaper way of trying out the apple desktop products.
I did find quite quickly however that purchase of an apple keyboard was largely beneficial to work with the mini as PC keyboards are not 100% compatible and keys on the keyboard aren't known by OSX and effectively get disabled and some keys are swapped around.
On the whole I thought that the mini with associated apple keyboard was a great browsing and non-power user machine, it was ideal for word processing, browsing the internet and playing low graphically intensive games but in the end replaced it with a full iMac to get the power that was lacking from this device.
I would recommend it for lower end requirements but as someone working in IT with a keen interest in photography and occasional gaming I found it to be lacking in power in more intensive situations, perhaps unsurprisingly. That being said it did expose me at a reasonable price point to OSX and I have subsequently invested in a full iMac and on that basis it did effectively serve the purpose I bought it for.
If you are a typical home user I would expect this machine to be a sensible buy but would recommend also adding an apple keyboard and mouse to benefit from the full OSX experience.
